About The Position

The Teacher Assistant works with the Head Start Teacher in implementing all classroom activities including meal service. The Assistant Teacher cooperates with the Teacher, Paraprofessional and other Head Start staff in providing the best possible program. Works with children and families in the classroom and performs other duties as assigned by the teacher.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft office.
  • Previous data entry experience.
  • A CDA credential or a state awarded certificate that meets or exceeds a CDA credential, or an associates or higher degree in any field.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
  • Knowledge of classroom policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques to assist students in early childhood learning.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for working with students with disabilities and special needs.
  • Knowledge of specialized Head Start and agency software applications and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and regional community services programs.
  • Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Knowledge of personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Skill in monitoring and improving student behavior and learning skills.
  • Skill in assisting children and special needs students and assessing educational needs.
  • Skill in maintaining composure and working effectively under classroom conditions.
  • Skill in administering educational and school support programs.
  • Skill in reacting quickly to situations that could create personal stress and safety problems.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with children.
  • Skill in collaborating as a team member, with colleagues, families, staff, and community representatives.
  • Skill in following verbal and written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers, families, clients and community agencies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License.
  • Proof of insurance.
  • Review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate preferred.
  • Must complete their COVID-19 vaccination series by 1/31/2022, or upon starting date, unless the Scott Carver Dakota CAP Agency approves a medical or religious accommodation as required by applicable law. New employees must submit vaccination documentation or be approved for an exemption/accommodation before beginning work.

Responsibilities

  • Plans with the Teacher and implements daily activities, assisting with completing child assessments using Creative Curriculum.
  • Data entry on teaching strategies GOLD software.
  • Works with the children individually and in groups in the center; accompanies the class on field trips.
  • Comply and implement local, state and Head Start federal guidelines.
  • Works with teacher and paraprofessional to serve and clean up meals and purchase groceries. Participates in family-style meals.
  • Actively participates in cleaning and maintenance of the center.
  • Attends team meetings, CAP Agency and Head Start trainings/meetings and other training as assigned.
  • Communicates with parents and staff to ensure complete services for each child. Communicates all relevant messages and information to teacher in a timely manner.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe indoor and outdoor environment in all aspects of the program.
  • Welcomes and supports parent and other volunteers at the center.
  • Shares responsibility for completion of program paperwork such as attendance and meal count, daily safety check, in-kind.
