About The Position

Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports. As a Head Start Preschool Teacher, you will serve as lead or co-teacher in an outcomes-oriented, team environment, and provide safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environments and experiences for children ages 3– 5. Motivated Head Start teachers improve the trajectory of children’s lives, including children’s learning outcomes, living standards, and later academic and professional success. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field.
  • Current Vermont Agency of Education teaching license with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education.
  • Knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice, child outcome assessment, child behavior management, and curriculum planning, development and implementation.
  • Commitment to social justice and to working with families with limited financial resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Physical ability to carry out required tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure with an additional endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education is preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities a plus.
