About The Position

Every employee of Stockbridge-Munsee Community is expected to present themselves in a professional manner to customers as well as other departments. Stockbridge Munsee Community strives to provide a positive team environment where everyone contributes. This role involves preparing breakfast and lunch daily based upon USDA Food Service Standards, planning monthly menus, managing food storage and orders, maintaining equipment and work areas, and providing nutrition education to children and parents. The position also requires collaboration with other staff, attendance at meetings and training, and adherence to tribal and federal regulations.

Requirements

Must submit to and pass and pre-employment drug and health screening.
Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description.
Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
Must be able work weekends, nights and holidays.
Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description.
High School Diploma, HSED Diploma or GED Certification is required. ( MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATION TO COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION).
Must obtain and maintain 5-Year “Serve-Safe” certification within first year of employment.
Must obtain and maintain Indian Health Service Food Handlers Certification required within three (3) months of employment.
Must comply with Wisconsin Department of Children and Families Wisconsin Administrative Code 251 as well as the Federal Office of Head Start and the Head Start Performance Standards related to finger-printing prior to and during course of employment.
Current and valid Driver’s License.
Knowledge of and ability to operate basic kitchen equipment used for food preparation and clean-up.
Knowledge of and ability to practice good, hygienic food handling techniques.
Excellent customer service/client relation skills.
Must be dependable, able to follow directions, and work independently with minimum supervision.
Must be able to document and maintain records related to food preparation and consumption, food service, as well as other basic record keeping duties.
Must be willing to and able to obtain additional education and training: Complete yearly trainings required by State, Federal and Tribal regulations including Mandated Reporter/Child and Abuse and Neglect and maintain documentation of continuing education hours
Complete Annual Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Training
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications or willingness to obtain these Certifications within thirty (30) days of date of employment is required.
Must maintain CPR/AED/First Aide Certification during employment.
Frequently sit, bend/stoop, squat, carry and lift up to fifty (50) pounds; occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull.
Must be able to spend time out-of-doors in both summer and winter months,
Must be able to use both hands for repetitive movements, simple, and firm grasping.
Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
Must be able to continuously carry up to twenty-four (24) pounds and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
May be exposed to frequent hot and cold temperatures, and chemical solutions.
Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

Nice To Haves

Two (2) years’ experience in quantity and/or institutional food preparation is preferred.
Obtain Child Care I and II Certification within first year of employment. (optional)
Complete USDA Food & Safety COVID-19 training within three (3) months of employment.

Responsibilities

Build an understanding of the Head Start program by communicating its philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, and the community.
Prepare breakfast and lunch daily based upon the USDA Food Service Standards and complete needed paperwork.
Plan and develop monthly menus utilizing USDA standard recipes and portion controls.
Check and store all delivered foods at appropriate temperature and storage instructions.
Monitor, complete and pick up food service orders for planned menus and food supplies/equipment.
Maintain all equipment and work area with a high degree of cleanliness according to facility standards and schedules established according to Federal, State and Local regulations.
Maintain and operate electric and gas cooking equipment, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, washing machine and dryer, and sanitization equipment according to Federal, State and Local regulations.
Follow Food Service dress code required by the Head Start Center and governmental regulations.
Report any problems or irregularities (accident, breakage, faulty equipment, food or supply shortages) to the Head Start Manager.
Provide Head Start children with classroom Nutrition Activities and healthy snack/meal recipes and tips for parents monthly.
Help the Head Start Program achieve its goals by staying informed of day-to-day activities and adjusting own work accordingly.
Advance program practice by promoting a positive working environment and working collaboratively with other staff to understand and support the adoption of best practices for children, families, and staff.
Attend meetings, seminars, and workshops as required.
Maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
Be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
Attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
Adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.
