About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University is seeking applications for the position of Head of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences, with a faculty rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The department serves over 800 students, offering undergraduate degrees in Health Promotion, Kinesiology, and Health and Physical Education, as well as master's degrees in Athletic Training and Health & Kinesiology. The department is part of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. This is a dual-role, 12-month teaching and administrative position. As a faculty member, the Head is expected to maintain teaching effectiveness and scholarly productivity. As an administrator, the Head serves as the unit budget officer and is responsible for the planning, direction, and development of the department. Administrative duties include hiring, supervising, and evaluating faculty, preparing the department’s course schedule, maintaining records, appointing committees, and addressing student needs. The Head acts as a liaison between faculty and the Dean, advocating for the department and implementing the Dean's directives. The Head is eligible for faculty development grants and manages accreditation procedures, standards, and compliance within the college and University.

Requirements

  • Successful four-year college/University teaching experience.
  • Successful administrative experience.
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited University in a related Health Science discipline.
  • Record of creative or scholarly achievement and service to merit appointment to faculty at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Very good ambassadorial and diplomatic skills.
