Head of Talent

Henry•New York, NY

About The Position

Henry is the AI deal platform for commercial real estate, used by brokers to manage the entire deal workflow, including agentic comps, underwriting, and generating deal materials like pitch decks, BOVs, and offering memoranda. As the fastest-growing AI-native proptech company globally, backed by top VCs and utilized by 80% of leading CRE brokerages, we are poised for significant expansion. In the next twelve months, we plan to hire over 20 new employees across engineering, product, sales, and growth. This role is crucial for managing this rapid hiring phase, moving beyond the CEO's current involvement and addressing the high cost of mis-hires at our accelerated pace. This is a strategic role focused on identifying and acquiring the talent essential for the company's growth, not an administrative HR or coordinator position.

Requirements

  • Proven operator with experience building recruiting at a tier-1 venture-backed startup during significant scaling phases.
  • Experience hiring engineers and sellers.
  • Experience owning a hiring plan.
  • Experience with the challenges and learnings from past hiring decisions ('scar tissue').
  • OR: Elite recruiter from a top-performing agency, search firm, or in-house role at a high-bar company.
  • Proven ability to close difficult candidates.
  • Readiness to trade external processes for ownership and accountability.
  • A builder mentality, not an administrator; comfortable starting from a hiring plan and a blank page.
  • Scrappiness to perform all recruiting tasks independently (sourcing, screening, scheduling, closing) without an initial team.
  • Strong judgment in assessing people, distinguishing between good interview performance and actual performance.
  • Ability to articulate opinions on candidates to hiring managers.
  • Strong sales and pitching skills, capable of engaging passive candidates.
  • A 'massive chip on your shoulder,' driven by a desire to prove oneself.
  • Located in NYC or willing to relocate.
  • Ability to match the company's intensity and focus on output over hours, understanding that year-one output may exceed 40 hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience hiring engineers at an AI-native company.
  • Experience recruiting sellers from CRE brokerages, capital markets, or financial services.
  • Experience building a recruiting function from scratch at a Series A-C startup.

Responsibilities

  • Own the hiring plan end-to-end, managing every open seat from VP to BDR, including ownership, scorecards, timelines, and pipelines.
  • Source candidates proactively, mapping top engineering teams in AI and identifying top sales talent from CRE brokerages and SaaS companies, utilizing cold outreach, referrals, events, and respectful poaching.
  • Build and maintain interview loops, scorecards, and calibration processes for all functions, ensuring hiring managers, including the CEO, adhere to them.
  • Close top candidates by running a tight process, effectively selling Henry, and structuring competitive offers including compensation and equity.
  • Replace agency spend by building an in-house sourcing machine, aiming for the majority of hires to come from our own pipeline within six months.
  • Co-pilot with the founder on hiring, particularly for senior roles, while managing other hiring independently.
  • Achieve hiring targets: 20+ hires in year one, by function and quarter, with agreed-upon metrics within the first 30 days.
  • Meet time-to-fill targets: 30 days for individual contributors and 60 days for leadership.
  • Ensure quality hires through 90-day check-ins and process review for underperforming hires.
  • Reduce agency spend by 75% within three months, with a majority of hires sourced internally.
  • Report directly to the CEO with weekly reviews of open seats, pipeline status, and conversion rates.

Benefits

  • A blank canvas with a real hiring plan and budget.
  • Opportunity to build within a category-defining company.
  • The fastest path to VP of People.
  • Equity in a fast-growing venture-backed company.
  • Supportive founder who actively participates in closing candidates and allows autonomy.
