About The Position

Lumafield is seeking a Head of Software to lead the end-to-end ownership of their Voyager platform. This role involves managing software development teams and the platform engineering group responsible for cloud and edge compute. The successful candidate will inherit a high-performance team in San Francisco and be responsible for continuous improvement, leading leaders, making high-stakes decisions, and fostering a culture of excellence. This is a hands-on leadership position at a customer-focused company, requiring the individual to set standards, scale the team, and drive solutions to complex problems.

Requirements

Led multi-level software engineering organizations at a startup, including managing managers, through at least one phase change in company size or product maturity.
Owned a production SaaS platform end-to-end, including uptime, on-call, release engineering, and infrastructure costs.
Possess deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure and DevOps, sufficient to review and critique platform designs and understand company-level tradeoffs.
Experience deploying solutions in both cloud and on-premises environments, with a proactive approach to performance and reliability.
Define 'done', unblock the team, and be well-versed in Radical Candor.
Passion for startups, with high engagement, ability to control chaos, rally during crunch times, and comfort working through ambiguity.

Nice To Haves

Experience with FedRAMP, ITAR/CMMC, or other regulated deployment environments where compliance is critical to revenue.
Background in 3D data, imaging, visualization, or metrology software, including experience with voxels, meshes, large-file pipelines, and GPU rendering in the browser.

Responsibilities

Align technical direction with business objectives and own the outcome, including strategic bets, focus areas, and roadmap prioritization.
Drive technical developments from architecture through release to solve customer problems.
Scale and lead the Platform Engineering function, covering CI/CD, observability, edge compute, and cloud cost management.
Hire and develop the leadership layer beneath the Head of Software.
Establish operating cadence and ensure the team meets commitment dates for planning across engineering, product, and sales.
Own the software security and compliance posture, including SBOM, vulnerability response, customer security reviews, and compliance controls.
