About The Position

M3 is the global leader in digital solutions in healthcare, experiencing significant year-on-year growth. Due to continued expansion, we are hiring a Head of Software Engineering to join PracticeMatch, an M3 company. PracticeMatch is a leader in providing physician data and services to healthcare organizations. This role will define and execute a technology roadmap to modernize PracticeMatch's legacy platform, align engineering with business strategy, and foster a culture of engineering excellence. The ideal candidate will lead the engineering team, drive delivery, and partner with business and product leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Active engagement with M3 USA's AI training and upskilling programs; demonstrated adoption of agentic coding tools.
  • 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant time in a hands-on technical role.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including direct management of engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading legacy system modernization or technology platform migration efforts.
  • Experience in a SaaS, data, or platform product environment.
  • Expert-level understanding of web application architecture.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern web technologies (React or equivalent front-end frameworks, RESTful APIs, cloud infrastructure, containerization).
  • Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines, automated test frameworks, and observability systems.
  • Practical knowledge of application security, data privacy, and compliance requirements in web products.
  • Working knowledge of agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or equivalents) and supporting techniques.
  • Proven ability to recruit, manage, and develop engineering talent at multiple levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to present technical information to executive, business, and engineering audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare technology or physician recruiting industry experience a plus.
  • Working fluency in ColdFusion and SQL Server sufficient to evaluate and guide modernization decisions.
  • Familiarity with the physician recruiting or healthcare data domain is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a multi-year technology roadmap for modernizing PracticeMatch's legacy platform.
  • Partner with product and business leadership to align engineering priorities with business strategy.
  • Establish a phased approach to system transformation, maintaining product stability.
  • Evaluate and recommend modern technology choices for scalability.
  • Champion the responsible adoption of agentic AI across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the engineering team, including software engineering and QA.
  • Build and sustain a culture of engineering excellence (code quality, security, documentation, peer review, test automation).
  • Attract, recruit, and retain engineering talent, building career paths and development plans.
  • Conduct performance conversations, provide feedback, and address performance issues.
  • Foster psychological safety and a learning environment within the team.
  • Own engineering delivery, ensuring projects are well-scoped, executed reliably, and meet quality standards.
  • Maintain and improve engineering systems (CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, observability).
  • Troubleshoot production incidents, drive root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
  • Implement and refine repository context, conventions, and executable plans for agentic coding.
  • Identify engineering work for AI-assisted or automated workflows.
  • Serve as the primary technology partner to business and product leadership.
  • Collaborate with M3 USA's broader technology leadership on shared infrastructure and standards.
  • Communicate architecture decisions, transformation progress, and engineering health to senior leadership.
  • Partner with HR on workforce planning, organizational design, compensation, and talent strategy.
