About The Position

Do you believe in the power of libraries to inspire, connect, and transform communities? We're seeking a visionary Head of Programming and Community Engagement (salary: $66,495 – $78,000) to guide a talented team of eleven and drive innovative programming at the Warren-Newport Public Library. In this Grade 9, Exempt position, you'll play a key role in guiding the library’s programming and community engagement initiatives. You’ll lead the creation of a diverse program calendar, oversee interactive community spaces, and foster connections that make the library a welcoming hub for all. The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with occasional weekends and evenings as needed to support department needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a library environment, including the development and management of library programming.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in library programming, community engagement, or outreach, with proven leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to manage interactive spaces and design experiences for diverse audiences.
  • Skills in mentoring and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

  • Define a clear direction for library programming and community engagement; set goals and adapt to evolving community interests.
  • Lead the creation and delivery of a diverse program calendar for all ages and interests.
  • Encourage creative, dynamic programming and use of interactive spaces such as Coco’s Cove, The Point, and The Vault; support experimentation and ongoing improvement to foster creativity and community connection.
  • Develop initiatives that foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all library visitors.
  • Build trust and teamwork with staff, volunteers, and internal partners to support programming goals.
  • Coach and develop the Programming Coordinator and team; provide feedback and growth opportunities.
  • Guide the department through change, including facility upgrades and new initiatives; communicate clearly and support staff.
  • Set high standards, track progress, and ensure goals are met; recognize achievements.
  • Stay informed on trends in library programming and community engagement.
  • Use data and feedback to improve programs and measure impact.
  • Advocate for the library’s role as a center for learning, creativity, and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team to promote programs and services.
  • Deliver presentations and serve as a spokesperson for programming and community engagement.
