Head of People

PylonSan Francisco, CA
Onsite

About The Position

At Pylon, we're building the future of B2B Post Sales with an all-in-one platform powered by conversational data and intelligence. We are backed by prominent investors like a16z, BCV, General Catalyst, and Y Combinator, and trusted by over 1300 companies including Linear, Cognition, Modal Labs, and Incident.io. We are seeking our first dedicated People leader to own multiple sub-functions including people operations, HR, performance and compensation, recruiting, and culture as we scale. This is a player-coach role, requiring someone who can build the function and processes from the ground up as a super individual contributor, not just a team builder.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an active player in scaling a People function from 50 to 500 employees.
  • Experience managing performance and employee relations, including PIPs, terminations, and layoffs, with the ability to articulate learnings.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work and 'schlep work' as part of building the function.
  • Ability to connect your role to the broader organizational goals.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and building processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to be the primary individual contributor for the People function for at least the first 12+ months, including running payroll and closing offers.
  • Commitment to building a high-bar, in-person culture in San Francisco.

Nice To Haves

  • Non-traditional background outside of HR that provides insight into driving a company forward.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and own the vision for the company and be an active voice in pushing the company forward, ensuring People and HR enable the company's growth.
  • Own People Ops, including selecting and running the HRIS, equity administration, managing the broker, and immigration counsel. Responsibilities also include onboarding (30/60/90), offboarding, payroll, benefits, and compliance, with a focus on scaling for the next 10x employees.
  • Own performance and compensation, from foundational elements like comp bands, review cycles, and PIP processes to enabling employees to perform at their best through manager coaching and promotions.
  • Nurture the company culture, acting as a bellwether for cultural alignment with core values such as Sprint the Marathon, Happy Grinder, Product Fluency, and Win as a Team.
  • Act as Head of Recruiting, maintaining the headcount plan and ensuring alignment between the plan and actual hiring.

Benefits

  • Commuter benefits
  • Parental leave
  • 14 company holidays
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Annual offsite
  • Lunch, dinner, and snacks at the office
  • Fitness stipend
