About The Position

equipifi is seeking its first full-time, in-house legal counsel, a generalist with fintech experience to manage the commercial contracting function, partner with Sales and Partnerships, and establish a scalable legal department. This role reports directly to the CFO and offers the opportunity to build the legal function from the ground up within a fast-growing fintech company. The ideal candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and focused on finding solutions while ensuring legal protection.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of in-house legal experience at a fintech, payments, lending, or B2B SaaS company.
  • Experience as the first or second attorney in a hyper-growth company.
  • Active bar admission in good standing.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) with the ability to work with anyone, balancing warmth, professionalism, and knowledge.
  • Ability to quickly understand and identify key issues in a 40-page MSA.
  • Skill in explaining legal risk in easily understandable terms.
  • Sufficient fluency in fintech and lending to engage in regulatory conversations.
  • A proactive approach to enabling business growth and finding the path to 'yes'.

Responsibilities

  • Build the legal foundation that scales with the company, including owning the contract playbook, standard form library, redline positions, vendor management framework, and outside counsel relationships.
  • Systematize and manage all commercial contracts such as MSAs, order forms, NDAs, and partnership agreements.
  • Serve as a 'yes-first' legal partner to Sales and Partnerships, facilitating deal closure by providing fast, clear, and understandable legal guidance.
  • Ensure deals move faster with legal's involvement, not slower.
  • Maintain fluency in BNPL and fintech regulation, providing clear and calibrated answers to compliance questions from customers, partners, and the executive team.
  • Elevate company maturity by acting as a sound expert to ensure compliance and maintain customer trust during scaling.
