About The Position

This role is responsible for providing strategic, AI-specific guidance to frontier AI company insiders who raise concerns, their supporters, and their attorneys. The goal is to ensure critical disclosures occur optimally and with minimal risk to the individuals involved. The position requires a blend of strategic, long-term thinking and pragmatic, rapid-response work. The Head of Guidance and Preparedness will lead research to identify guidance gaps, develop actionable processes and guidance, build an expert network, and create preparedness plans for disclosure scenarios. This role is critical to AIWI's mission of supporting AI safety and will significantly shape the organization's strategy and operations as it scales.

  • Experience recruiting and managing collaborators, supporters, and stakeholders.
  • Past employment at a frontier company, with understanding of organizational practices in frontier AI development.
  • At a minimum, high interest in organizational dynamics.
  • Technical understanding sufficient to follow descriptions of technical issues and ask relevant questions.
  • Epistemic humility and willingness to seek feedback.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate with non-technical audiences.
  • A relevant, trusted network.
  • Deep interest in rapidly gaining an understanding of whistleblowing, legal, and security domains.

Nice To Haves

  • First-hand experience working for at least one frontier company in a role that allowed witnessing high-context decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run research to uncover guidance gaps and close them, primarily through stakeholder consultations and scenario workshops.
  • Commission and manage fellows and contractors for research purposes.
  • Design and publish automations in problem discovery, research, and network maintenance.
  • Convert insights into actionable processes and guidance for insiders, partner attorneys, and support organizations.
  • Train insiders and partner organizations on developed guidance.
  • Build and maintain a trusted pool of experts for rapid consultation.
  • Build preparedness plans for disclosure scenarios, including optimal responses for high-sensitivity situations.
  • Shape AIWI's strategy by advising on priority risk categories, company functions, and disclosure types.
  • Initiate new projects to close gaps in the 'whistleblowing chain'.
  • Work closely with the policy team.
