About The Position

Reporting to the VP, Accounting and Operational Finance, the Head of Financial Accounting is responsible for delivering all areas of financial accounting for Couche-Tard/Circle K in the United States, Canada and Europe. The role leads large, geographically distributed teams and oversees the full spectrum of retail accounting processes, with a strong focus on process excellence and customer service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Master’s or MBA preferred)
  • CPA certification, or international equivalent
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial management, including direct experience with financial accounting processes and internal controls
  • Deep expertise in financial accounting processes, with a strong interest in both day‑to‑day operations and process transformation
  • Strategic leadership experience across core accounting functions, including general ledger, close, non‑trade AP, capital accounting, leases, payroll, transactional taxes, reporting, and compliance
  • Strong background in internal controls and period‑end reporting
  • Proven success leading system implementations, process transformation, innovation, and organisational change
  • Experience with M&A diligence, integration, and post‑acquisition transition services
  • Ability to balance operational execution with large‑scale change initiatives
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and leading high‑performing, distributed teams
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to lead and influence decision‑making in a complex, global organisation
  • Effective cross‑functional partner with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead across cultures and geographies in a large, distributed organisation
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 30%)
  • Onsite work required five days per week at the Laval office when not travelling; relocation assistance available, if applicable
  • Bilingualism required (Advanced French and English) both spoken and written, as the person will be required to work and communicate regularly in English while performing the tasks outlined above. Specifically, the role requires collaboration with global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial accounting activities, including associated internal and external audit activities; meets regularly with teams to keep informed and to provide directions.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of financial close and control, while continuously looking for ways to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Sets accounting policies to ensure correctness, appropriateness and compliance with Couche-Tard/Circle K accounting policies and IFRS standards.
  • Leads projects including transformation and innovation initiatives and provides strategic insight to streamline and improve processes to drive value across the organization.
  • Establishes and manages the development, documentation, and implementation of internal controls, policies, procedures, and job aids to support and improve the daily financial operations and the company’s continued growth.
  • Responsible for compliance with all internal controls, including management of internal control documentation and audit testing (by internal and external audit teams).
  • Guides internal actions by developing and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Fosters and maintain key relationships throughout the organization to facilitate teamwork across departments.
  • Leads a large, distributed, multi-location team in professional development.
  • Provides strategic leadership and analysis to streamline and improve processes to drive value across the organization.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to create efficiency through automation and standardization.
  • Mitigates risks inherent in the company’s accounting processes and systems.
  • Leads and promotes a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Collaborates with operations and global functions to ensure proper accounting treatment for new programs, efficient and effective processes, and streamline processes using technology.
  • Establishes and maintains productive engagement with global operations teams, supporting their needs in an efficient and scalable manner.
