About The Position

M3 is the global leader in digital solutions in healthcare, experiencing significant year-on-year growth. PracticeMatch, an M3 company and the industry leader in providing physician data and services to staffing professionals, is seeking a Head of Engineering to join their team. This role will be instrumental in modernizing PracticeMatch's legacy platform and driving technological innovation. The Head of Engineering will lead and develop the engineering team, foster a culture of excellence, and ensure reliable delivery of projects. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of modern technology, including AI, to align engineering efforts with business objectives and customer outcomes.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Active engagement with M3 USA's AI training and upskilling programs; demonstrated adoption of agentic coding tools.
12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant time in a hands-on technical role.
5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including direct management of engineering teams.
Demonstrated experience leading legacy system modernization or technology platform migration efforts.
Experience in a SaaS, data, or platform product environment.
Expert-level understanding of web application architecture.
Strong working knowledge of modern web technologies (React or equivalent front-end frameworks, RESTful APIs, cloud infrastructure, containerization).
Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines, automated test frameworks, and observability systems.
Practical knowledge of application security, data privacy, and compliance requirements in web products.
Working knowledge of agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or equivalents) and the techniques that make them reliable in production engineering.
Proven ability to recruit, manage, and develop engineering talent at multiple levels.
Strong written and verbal communication; able to present technical information to executive, business, and engineering audiences.

Nice To Haves

Healthcare technology or physician recruiting industry experience a plus.
Familiarity with the physician recruiting or healthcare data domain is an advantage.

Responsibilities

Define and execute a multi-year technology roadmap for modernizing PracticeMatch's legacy platform.
Partner with product and business leadership to align engineering priorities with the company's strategy.
Establish a phased approach to system transformation, maintaining product stability.
Evaluate and recommend modern technology choices for scalability.
Champion the responsible adoption of agentic AI across the engineering lifecycle.
Lead, manage, and develop the engineering team, including software engineering and QA functions.
Build and sustain a culture of engineering excellence with clear standards for code quality, security, documentation, peer review, and test automation.
Attract, recruit, and retain strong engineering talent, building career paths and development plans.
Conduct regular performance conversations and provide constructive feedback.
Foster psychological safety and a team environment for learning and improvement.
Own engineering delivery, ensuring projects are well-scoped, executed reliably, and completed to a high standard.
Maintain and improve engineering systems like CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment infrastructure, quality gates, and observability.
Troubleshoot complex production incidents, drive root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
Implement and refine repository context, conventions, and executable plans for effective agentic coding.
Identify engineering work for AI-assisted or automated workflows while maintaining human review for quality and compliance.
Serve as the primary technology partner to business and product leadership.
Collaborate with M3 USA's broader technology leadership on shared infrastructure and standards.
Communicate architecture decisions, transformation progress, and engineering health to senior leadership.
Partner with HR on workforce planning, organizational design, compensation, and talent strategy for the engineering team.
