About The Position

Bishop-Wisecarver is seeking a Head of Engineering with a "pioneering spirit" to lead their team into the future of autonomous and intelligent motion. This role involves transforming customer challenges into complex, robust solutions for harsh environments. The Head of Engineering will be a mechatronics mastermind responsible for product and innovation leadership, AI integration, new product development execution, executive influence, business and financial ownership, and organizational leadership with a focus on talent development.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of experience in mechanical/mechatronic design
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Deep understanding of the intersection between motion control, sensors, and software
  • Experience leveraging AI-driven design tools or simulation software to accelerate the R&D cycle
  • Strong background in a manufacturing environment with working knowledge of ERP systems and 3D printing/rapid prototyping
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical or Mechatronics Engineering preferred
  • PE Certification is a significant plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of integrated mechanical, electrical, and software systems, moving beyond components into full-scale mechatronic solutions.
  • Own the end-to-end engineering strategy and technical roadmap, aligned to BW’s growth objectives tightly aligned with market needs and commercial priorities.
  • Champion the use of AI in Engineering—from generative design and predictive maintenance algorithms to optimizing manufacturing workflows.
  • Drive the New Product Development pipeline with a focus on "Signature Experience" solutions that are custom-built for unique customer requirements.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous NPD systems (stage-gate, prioritization, resource allocation).
  • Serve as a key member of the Leadership Team, translating technical roadmaps into business growth strategies.
  • Contribute directly to revenue growth through new product introduction and innovation.
  • Own engineering’s impact on product cost and gross margin, design-for-manufacturability and scalability.
  • Manage the engineering budget, including capital allocation for tools, labs, and prototyping.
  • Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization, including leaders and technical experts.
  • Define structure, hiring strategy, and capability roadmap.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and disciplined execution.
