About The Position

Marshall Land Systems is seeking a Head of Engineering Programs - Canada to join our team located in Ottawa, ON. This role is accountable to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams responsible to deliver design and build development programs and production readiness activities across the portfolio of MLS programs and projects. This is a key leadership position in the execution of the business that drives high standards of engineering delivery performance through collaboration and coordination across the MLS Global engineering organization and other functions within the business. This role will partner and integrate with all global functions across the global Marshall Land Systems business to ensure consistency of approach, process and governance when considering the wider business strategy. The role will support business growth through world leading engineering that sees the business continue to grow our portfolio of products and services to our customers integrated and aligned with the strategic growth priorities.

Requirements

  • Engineering (Electrical / Systems / Mechatronics / Mechanical) degree qualifications and aligned experience.
  • Experience, or demonstrable capability, of working at a Senior Leadership Level with a within a functional / program matrix organization.
  • Proven experience of building and leading teams through the product development lifecycle from requirements, design evolution, product realization and serial rate production.
  • Analytical and detail orientated used to working with data to influence business decisions.
  • Experience of new and innovative Engineering process and digital technology.
  • Experience in defining and implementing an Engineering strategy.
  • Experience of partnering with a range of internal and external stakeholders and clients.
  • Full product development lifecycle experience along with solid understanding of a breadth of engineering disciplines and integration of an Engineered solution in a manufacturing operational environment.
  • An understanding of financial management and wider program management principles and techniques.
  • The ability to understand complex problems, develop and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated, well-rounded design experience including systems, hardware and large-scale integration.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong and inspirational leadership to the Engineering teams as they deliver against program, customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Align professional career development as identified for Engineering resource with the Head of Functional Engineering supporting the capability of the wholistic Engineering function.
  • Accountable to deliver Engineering outcomes against governance and customer requirements, on time, on budget in support of applicable programs.
  • Hold teams to account against project/ product schedules and budgeted costs.
  • Ensure planning activity is embedded as a discipline within the engineering teams to drive efficient and effective delivery.
  • Engineering planning will be integrated as appropriate into program master scheduling.
  • Drive a commercial approach to engineering within the business line and ensure the bid inputs for engineering take account of the ‘go to market’ strategy.
  • To support the development and delivery of the Engineering strategy integrated with the Engineering leadership team and aligned with the broader business growth strategy to meet both the current business requirements and future growth/ development.
  • Interface appropriately with the key stakeholders and customer (Internal and External) on all engineering matters within the business, keeping abreast of engineering advancements and new technology as a means to engagement and building out future opportunities.
  • Lead the progressive development of our product offering, ensuring it anticipates and meets current and future customer requirements to drive a differentiated and competitive market solution.
  • Responsible for leading program deployed Engineering teams in the innovative design of products/services to ensure end-to-end system architecture and designs are technically sound, and we meet requirements and regulations.
  • Lead, motivate and engage a diverse team of Engineers from varying disciplines throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Integrate, as directed, with the Director of Engineering on future pipeline and emerging technology / engineering solutions, aligned with the business growth strategy.
  • Appropriately integrate with the Chief Engineering Governance organization to ensure the integrity and regulatory compliance of our engineering solutions whilst achieving consistent on-time delivery.
  • Lead programs and projects providing specialist Engineering domain leadership, advice and guidance to a portfolio of programs & projects identifying interdependencies and integration improvements.
  • Develop and agree budgets in line with the global business planning cycle.
  • Interactive participation in program readiness/gate reviews and program technical reviews.
  • Integrate and lead on appropriate business transformation and Continuous Improvement.
  • Ensure effective resource planning, in partnership with the Engineering functions and programs, to meet customer delivery and to ensure that utilization is effectively managed.
  • Partner and integrate appropriately with key stakeholders within the Engineering function and other business function aligned with an integrated product team environment.
  • Serve as primary resource for North American based engineers to elevate issues and secure corporate technical support across the company.
