Head of Datacenter Delivery

Etched•San Jose, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Etched is seeking a Head of Datacenter Delivery to build its turnkey compute capability, from sourcing sites and power through datacenter construction, rack installation, and delivery of fully operational facilities ready for sale. The role also owns Etched’s internal datacenter and lab buildouts, translating product-roadmap needs into power forecasts, sourcing priorities, and construction schedules. This is a hands-on leadership position focused on delivering working compute, not merely securing space and power. The Head of Datacenter Delivery will coordinate closely with product and engineering teams, establish sourcing and delivery processes, and oversee projects from site selection and preconstruction through commissioning and operational handover. The role is accountable for schedules, budgets, safety, and quality, and will build and lead the delivery team while ensuring partners deliver against demanding milestones.

Requirements

  • Track record delivering large-scale datacenters or similarly complex, power-intensive facilities from site selection through commissioning and operational handover.
  • Established network across the datacenter ecosystem and ability to turn relationships into actionable site, power, and equipment opportunities.
  • Strong technical judgment across power, cooling, networking, and construction, including evaluating designs, equipment alternatives, and realistic delivery timelines.
  • Experience leading teams and managing construction budgets, contractors, and delivery partners against demanding schedules.
  • Ability to understand a hardware roadmap deeply enough to anticipate infrastructure needs and adapt plans as requirements change.
  • Hands-on, resourceful approach, including challenging assumptions, finding practical alternatives, and driving execution across engineering, real estate, construction, and operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering high-density AI/HPC infrastructure, including liquid-cooled, rack-scale deployments.
  • Experience developing turnkey infrastructure projects that combine operational systems with the underlying real estate or lease.
  • Experience building hardware bring-up, validation, or production test labs.

Responsibilities

  • Stay closely connected to product milestones, production ramps, and bring-up schedules; translate them into power and capacity forecasts, site-selection requirements, and phased delivery plans.
  • Build a sourcing pipeline for sites, power, and equipment, developing relationships with GPU clouds, datacenter brokers and operators, developers, landlords, utilities, and equipment suppliers.
  • Own site selection, diligence, and preconstruction, including validating power availability and energization timelines, assessing buildout requirements, and establishing budgets, permitting paths, and long-lead procurement plans.
  • Evaluate design assumptions and identify faster, more cost-effective ways to build, including design modifications, repurposed facilities, and used or refurbished equipment without compromising safety, reliability, or hardware requirements.
  • Own datacenter and lab delivery through construction, rack installation, integrated facility and system commissioning, and handover to operations.
  • Manage schedule, budget, safety, and quality, including long-lead equipment procurement and utility-readiness coordination.
  • Build a repeatable turnkey delivery process covering testing, documentation, operator training, and coordination with Legal and Finance to prepare facilities and their real estate or leases for sale and transfer.
  • Build and lead the delivery team, coach and develop existing team members, hold developers, contractors, and partners accountable, provide leadership with visibility into risks and tradeoffs, and resolve issues before they affect product milestones.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage.
  • $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits.
  • Housing subsidy of $2,500 per month for those living within walking distance of the office.
  • Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row).
  • Wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more.
  • Daily lunch and dinner in the office.
  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification.
