About The Position

Bloomberg is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Benefits, Americas to lead its benefits strategy and programs for approximately 14,000 employees in the U.S. and 500 employees across eight other countries in the broader Americas region. This leadership role focuses exclusively on benefits and time away programs, ensuring they are competitive, sustainable, and aligned with business and workforce needs. The position involves serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and HR partners, providing expertise on strategy, market trends, program design, governance, and complex benefits matters. The goal is to shape valued and engaging programs while balancing employee needs with business priorities. The role requires deep expertise to oversee sophisticated programs and strong leadership presence to represent Benefits to employees and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits, including substantial leadership experience within a mid-to-large, complex organization.
  • Experience supporting a large and complex employee population, ideally at comparable scale, with an understanding of the governance, financial, and operational requirements associated with sophisticated benefits programs.
  • Deep expertise across U.S. health and welfare, retirement, wellbeing, and time away/leave programs, with the ability to operate as a credible subject matter expert across the full benefits portfolio.
  • Significant regional or global benefits experience, with demonstrated responsibility for benefits programs across multiple countries and the ability to navigate differing market practices, regulatory environments, and employee needs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing benefits strategy, including plan design, benchmarking, renewals, vendor management, and program evolution.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing significant benefits spend, with demonstrated accountability for budgets, forecasting, program costs, and vendor investments.
  • Strong knowledge of the U.S. benefits and regulatory environment, with the ability to anticipate emerging developments and assess their implications for the organization.
  • Proven people leadership experience, with a track record of coaching, developing, and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Experience managing sophisticated vendor relationships, including contract negotiations, performance management, service-level expectations, and vendor governance.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and influencing decisions involving complex benefits, financial, and employee considerations.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex benefits topics clearly to audiences ranging from individual employees to senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and commercial judgment, including experience using benefits data, costs, utilization, employee insights, and market trends to inform decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and lead through change in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • A highly collaborative approach and the ability to build trusted partnerships across HR, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and other functions.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and empathy when navigating sensitive employee matters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy, design, and delivery of Bloomberg’s Americas health and welfare, retirement, wellbeing, and time away/leave programs, ensuring competitiveness, sustainability, and responsiveness to employee and business needs.
  • Oversee significant benefits spend and program economics, including budgets, renewals, vendor investments, and plan changes, with strong financial acumen to balance employee experience, market competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and risk.
  • Create and evolve benefits programs that employees value, understand, and engage with, focusing on the overall employee experience.
  • Serve as the senior benefits subject matter expert and primary representative for U.S. benefits, providing guidance to employees, HR partners, and senior leadership.
  • Coach and develop a team of six benefits professionals, establishing priorities, building capability, and creating growth opportunities.
  • Manage relationships with insurers, brokers, consultants, administrators, and wellbeing providers, leading contract negotiations, establishing service standards and KPIs, and holding partners accountable.
  • Build on existing processes, controls, and data transfers for benefits vendors and internal stakeholders, developing a vision for operational excellence, streamlining processes, strengthening controls, and leveraging technology.
  • Utilize benefits analytics, utilization trends, employee feedback, market intelligence, and competitor benchmarking to evaluate and refine programs, translating data into insights and recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Ensure mental health, resilience, and holistic wellbeing are embedded into Bloomberg’s broader benefits strategy and programs.
  • Partner across HR, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and other key functions, building relationships with senior stakeholders to deliver an exceptional benefits offering.
  • Stay ahead of regulatory developments and ensure benefits and leave programs meet applicable requirements and governance standards, partnering with Legal and other subject matter experts.
  • Lead effective employee communications around benefits programs and changes, translating complex topics into clear, accessible information.
  • Provide leadership and sound judgment during complex or sensitive employee benefits matters with an empathetic and employee-focused approach.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance benefits processes, technology, controls, and service delivery while continually improving the employee experience.
  • Act as a visible champion for Benefits, building credibility and strong relationships across the organization to ensure Benefits has a strong, trusted voice in broader people and business discussions.
