Head of Balance Sheet Forecasting

About The Position

Serves as the central lead and responsible party for the on-going forecast, monitoring, and performance attribution for the Company's aggregate Balance Sheet and Net Interest Income. Includes leadership and oversight for forecasting baseline as well as stressed scenarios (i.e., CCAR/DFAST). In conjunction, provides financial consultation with Corporate Treasury and other team members on execution and alignment with strategic priorities. Involved in developing external content and guidance as it relates to the Balance Sheet, Net Interest Income, yield and margin trends (i.e., NIM), deposit trends, etc.

Requirements

  • Requires a level of knowledge normally gained through completion of an undergraduate degree.
  • Expect a minimum of approximately 10+ years of relevant experience, with an emphasis on having served in FP&A and/or Corporate Treasury type roles at a financial institution of comparable complexity and size.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with proficiency using enterprise planning systems, Excel, G/L, A/P, etc.; experience with ALM systems is preferred.
  • Expertise in a variety of banking concepts, practices and procedures, including a working knowledge of cash-flow and pricing structures across banking products, derivatives and hedging, Funds Transfer Pricing, relevant regulatory constraints related to capital and liquidity, etc.
  • Knowledge of the wholesale components of a bank's Balance Sheet, particularly as it relates to activities managed within the Corporate Treasury function including cash/reserves, fixed income securities, various forms of borrowings, brokered deposits, etc.
  • Strong understanding of external financial reporting for a financial reporting, including both SEC and Regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong skill set translating complex business concepts into tangible and actionable takeaways, across business partners.
  • Skill communicating with executive management to understand requirements and set priorities.
  • Excellent organizational and team management skills.
  • Skill leading and directing a team(s), particularly those outside your direct reporting structure, toward common goals while meeting all deadlines.
  • Skill in effectively communicating financial results, both verbally and through reports, and presentations to leadership.
  • Skill managing multiple projects concurrently and delegating while maintaining involvement in projects to meet deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify trends within raw data.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the Balance Sheet and Net Interest Income components of the on-going forecasting process. Includes oversight and providing direction on underlying balance and yield trends, with a focus on achieving both financial performance and other strategic objectives. Engagement may span from monthly updates of baseline forecasts to annual involvement and governance over the Company's forecast as used within the annual capital planning and stress testing processes.
  • Serves as a business-line CFO for the Corporate Treasury function. Includes performing monthly financial reporting and partnering with the Corporate Treasury team to review financial performance and provide direction toward achieving various objectives. Also partners with the Corporate Treasurer to monitor overall balance sheet trends and performance, with a focus on consulting with the CFO and other executives toward the achievement of corporate objectives.
  • Plays a central role in the quarterly Investor Relations process, particularly as it relates to trends and the outlook for the Company's Balance Sheet and NII profile. Includes participating in meetings with executives as part of the external reporting process, compiling and reviewing certain materials as are used in external reporting processes, maintaining an acute awareness of relevant industry trends, and providing supporting materials to management and the Investor Relations function.
  • Significant involvement in various external reporting and governance processes, including quarterly reviews of 10Q/10K financial reports and performance of various SOX and/or operational controls.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
