About The Position

Warren Wilson College invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Volleyball Coach. We are seeking an enthusiastic, driven individual with the right aptitude and experience to recruit students for our Men’s Volleyball program. The individual in this role will also be responsible for motivating and supporting student-athletes, and creating a strong team performance and culture. Competitive applicants should have proven successful coaching and recruiting experience in the sport of volleyball, and possess excellent communication and efficient organizational skills. The primary areas of responsibility for this position include oversight and operation of the Men’s Volleyball Team, including all aspects of coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and managing the men's intercollegiate volleyball program within the policies and philosophy of Warren Wilson College. This position is required to work frequently during evenings and weekends. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of coaching or related athletic experience, OR at least two years participating at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collegiate volleyball.
  • Evidence of team-building skills focusing on communication and positive interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from a diverse range of identities and experiences.
  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use or ability to obtain certifications upon hire.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Three to five years of coaching or related athletic experience, including program development and collegiate coaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and coach student-athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a systematic recruiting program under the direction of the Athletic Director and Vice President of Enrollment to accomplish recruiting goals.
  • Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who are capable of academic, athletic, and social success in a competitive academic, athletic, and work environment. This may occur through visits, scouting, social media, phone calls, correspondence, camps, clinics, and other strategies to meet established roster goals.
  • Schedule intercollegiate contests. Considerations include any Warren Wilson community event, travel time, competition between like opponents, and realistic demands placed on student-athletes.
  • Build and promote a team culture conducive to academic and athletic excellence.
  • Create a high standard of athletic training, leadership, preparation, competition, exercise, and skill development for all student-athletes.
  • Ensures compliance with all association, conference, and college rules by athletes and supporting staff.
  • Hire and supervise a part-time assistant coach, as approved.
  • Attend department meetings, and home and away athletic events as required.
  • Assist with game management and building operations as needed.
  • Organize and maintain all travel operations including scheduling, budgeting, driving and proper management of student-athletes.
  • Utilize recruiting software and maintain a database.
  • Oversee and manage the team budget while being fiscally responsible.
  • Manage preparation for gymnasium as needed.
  • Reconciles credit card statements and collects and submits all departmental check requests to the office of administration and finance.
  • Maintain and inventory all volleyball college assets.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours and files.
  • Work effectively with student-athletes, staff, faculty, and administrators through good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Represent the college in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
  • Assists in building relations with the WWC alumni.
  • Maintain a professional appearance when representing the college.
  • Establish a working and coaching presence in the athletic offices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
