About The Position

The Head Coach will lead and direct all aspects of the competitive intercollegiate sport, including coaching and teaching effective strategy, technique, and training. Responsibilities also include the recruitment of qualified student-athletes and potentially teaching courses or carrying out administrative duties within the Intercollegiate Athletics department. The Head Coach is responsible for ensuring compliance with NCAA, Conference, and Ithaca College rules and regulations, and for establishing appropriate competitive and developmental goals for each season. The role involves alumni relations within the sport and supporting fundraising efforts for program or department initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 2 years coaching experience
Knowledge of and interest in men's and women's sports
Experience scheduling and coordinating special events or athletic contests
Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, and reconcile various departmental and program budgets
Ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment
Ability to treat all people equitably and with sensitivity and awareness to cultural difference
Demonstrated ability to hold others accountable for behavior supportive of a diverse and inclusive community
Extensive knowledge of various word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and conduct in-season and, where appropriate and permissible, non-traditional and post-season team and individual athlete practices and competitions.
Design instructions for individual student athletes and specific team needs, and teach proper skills, skill development, and team concepts.
Develop, demonstrate, and promote multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful College community.
Analyze opponent performance and develop competition strategies.
Oversee the promotion of student athlete safety and well-being in all training, conditioning, practice, and competition activities.
Provide student athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety.
Monitor the academic progress of each student athlete.
Council and advise student athletes on goal setting, academic success, appropriate social conduct, life skills, media communication, and other personal and sport-related issues.
Oversee, coordinate, and supervise recruitment efforts, including identification and correspondence with prospective student athletes.
Oversee the process of selecting, maintaining, monitoring, and evaluating all team members, including athlete talent assessment, academic eligibility, and individual sport performance.
Attend and participate in appropriate national or regional level coaching clinics and/or conventions.
Prepare and submit sport-related budgets and provide input on team travel, lodging, and meals.
Submit travel itineraries for all away competitions to athletics administration.
Evaluate, select, and recommend for purchase sport-related equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Oversee the distribution and recovery of all equipment, uniforms, and supplies, and ensure an inventory control system.
Assist and collaborate with athletics administrators in creating practice and competition schedules.
Oversee the arrangement of officials for all appropriate home competitions.
Identify and resolve athletic facility issues, especially those involving safety.
Participate in identifying candidates for assistant coaching positions and assist in the selection process.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and volunteer coaches.
Engage in fundraising projects and activities to promote the athletics program, including meeting sport-specific fundraising goals.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings, unless excused by supervisor.
Serve on various College committees and seek opportunities to serve on national and regional sports committees.
Complete various assigned reports, including the sport-related annual report.
Meet annually with supervisor and/or Director to review evaluations and establish personal and professional goals.
Perform other related duties, which may include teaching in the School of HSHP and/or managing an administrative assignment in the athletics program.
