About The Position

Earlham College is seeking a Head Men's Basketball Coach to oversee and manage the men's basketball program. This role involves recruiting, developing, and retaining student-athletes, and coaching a competitive NCAA Division III team in compliance with all relevant rules and regulations. The coach will also be responsible for academic and personal development of student-athletes, program administration, and representing the college positively within the athletic department and broader community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Successful record of recruiting, developing, and retaining student-athletes is essential.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership.
  • Commitment to, understanding of, and appreciation for NCAA Division III athletics and wellness in a private liberal arts college.
  • Current and valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous collegiate coaching experience (3-5 years) is preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience is desired.
  • Experience working on a campus with a diverse student body is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an annual overall recruitment strategy and generate monthly recruiting reports.
  • Build relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families, and coordinate campus visits.
  • Attend tournaments, showcases, high school games, and practices to identify and recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Establish and maintain a recruiting database using athletic department software and utilize social media for recruitment.
  • Meet or exceed annual recruitment goals and maintain optimal roster size.
  • Support, monitor, and track the academic success and personal growth of each student-athlete.
  • Orient student-athletes to College, HCAC, and NCAA policies and regulations.
  • Oversee the conduct and discipline of student-athletes.
  • Prepare and coordinate team competition and practice schedules.
  • Manage the program's budget, including inventory, purchasing, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms.
  • Hire, train, and supervise a full-time assistant coach.
  • Collaborate with the Sports Marketing and Communications office to promote the team and college.
  • Utilize social media to promote the men's basketball program, athletic department, and Earlham College.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Coordinate logistics for team travel, including bus and van schedules, meals, and lodging.
  • Be available to assist player needs and maintain an office presence.
  • Develop a competitive program consistent with the athletic department's vision.
  • Teach individual skills, team concepts, and competitive values.
  • Prepare and execute practice and game plans, providing individual player attention.
  • Assist in overseeing weight training and individual workouts, and design off-season workouts.
  • Prepare game plans and scout future opponents.
  • Perform post-game duties, including arranging team meals, securing statistics, and contacting the sports information office.
  • Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and mature conduct.
  • Positively represent Earlham to all constituency groups and in professional associations.
  • Develop an annual fundraising and alumni outreach plan.
  • Be an active member of the athletic department and administrative faculty, attending meetings and supporting other programs.
  • Assist the athletic department as needed, including game management and supervision.
  • Obtain van certification for student-athlete transportation.
  • Understand and support the basic mission of the College.
  • Teach four half-semester courses per year in the Athletics, Wellness, and Physical Education (AWPE) curriculum.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
