About The Position

Responsible for developing and maintaining a competitive wrestling program at the NJCAA level. Cultivate a learning atmosphere that allows each athlete in the wrestling program to thrive in a safe and fair environment. Create and implement a recruiting strategy that brings in quality student athletes. Maintain compliance with all NJCAA policies and procedures. Ensure student athletes maintain a high academic standard. Develop and implement practice, training, and condition plans that maximize each student athlete's ability. Develop and implement a student academic success plan that increases athletes' ability to achieve high academic standards. Brief and train assistant coaches. Monitor student athlete eligibility between Academic Affairs, athletic advisors and athletes. Enforce appropriate student-athlete conduct and ensure a positive image of the student-athlete and the wrestling program on campus and in surrounding areas. Create a culture of sportsmanship amongst coaching staff and athletes. Establish and maintain standards of dress, scholarship and conduct for team travel, training and practice. Plan and manage competition and travel schedules. Review and recommend changes, repairs and improvement of athletics equipment and facilities. Maintain and utilize budget based on policy and limits set by Rose State College and the athletic department. Maintain compliance with college policies and procedures, affiliated conferences and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region 2, Division I rules and regulations. Plan and participate in fundraising efforts that benefit Rose State wrestling and athletics. Maintain accurate recordkeeping of student-athlete information to include personal and medical data; scholarships; financial aid; eligibility; and transfer information. Cultivate and sustain a collaborative relationship with students, faculty and staff. Frequent evenings, weekends and travel required. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Athletic Programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three (3) years of successful coaching club, high school and/or college wrestling, preferably at the college level.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations including recruiting, financial aid, eligibility and playing seasons.
  • Proven effectiveness in developing athletic programs.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Display the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Posses valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. and heavy carrying up to 50 lbs. required.
  • Ability to reach above shoulder.
  • Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and stooping.
  • Mobility to move from building to building on-campus and to visit off-campus sites/facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree.
  • Five (5) years' coaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
