About The Position

The Head Mechanic is responsible for servicing and troubleshooting plant rolling stock and heavy equipment. This role involves maintaining and improving the preventive maintenance program with a focus on safety, quality, continuous improvement, and production. The Head Mechanic must work safely by complying with all company safety policies and utilizing required PPE. They will also be involved in project justification, risk management, troubleshooting, goal setting, cause and effect analysis, progress evaluation, project completion, and follow-up. Additionally, the role includes ordering parts, maintaining inventory, communicating efficiently with plant and supervisory personnel, reading and understanding service manuals, and maintaining required documentation using a work order system for tracking maintenance and scheduling preventive maintenance.

Requirements

• Knowledge of and experience with hydraulic pumps and components, automatic transmissions, electrical and electronic systems, brake, exhaust, fuel (gas, diesel and propane), cooling systems and welding/fabricating required.
• Must possess good communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and maintaining rolling stock in an industrial environment.
• Basic computer knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Ability to utilize a work order system to track maintenance and schedule preventative maintenance is required.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 5 years forklift and heavy equipment repair experience preferred.

Responsibilities
