About The Position

The Head Lifeguard oversees lifeguard staff and supports the safe and efficient operation of district aquatic facilities. This position supervises lifeguards, coordinates schedules and training, monitors pool activities, and ensures compliance with safety procedures and health regulations. The Head Lifeguard maintains a sanitary and safe swimming environment, provides basic swim instruction when assigned, and assists in responding to emergency situations to protect the safety and well-being of pool participants.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee lifeguards to ensure appropriate supervision of aquatic facilities and compliance with safety procedures.
  • Coordinate lifeguard schedules, shift assignments, and coverage for aquatic activities.
  • Monitor swimming pool activities to enforce established policies and ensure the safety and welfare of participants.
  • Respond to emergency situations in swimming areas to protect individuals' lives and health and assist in resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Provide first aid and water rescue support when required.
  • Maintain a sanitary, safe swimming environment by assisting with cleaning pool facilities, including the pool, deck areas, and surrounding areas.
  • Instruct students in basic swimming when assigned.
  • Review and oversee lifeguard reporting functions to ensure accurate records and documentation are maintained.
  • Coordinate lifeguard training, certification renewals, and professional development requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating and supporting swim lessons and aquatic programs.
  • Communicate with the Pool Manager regarding facility needs, safety concerns, and program operations.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional development related to aquatic safety and facility operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the aquatic facility.
