About The Position

The Head JV Baseball Coach is responsible for all facets of the boys’ junior varsity baseball program at Portage Northern High School. The coach works closely with the Varsity Head Coach and other coaches in the program. The position involves coaching the team in the SMAC Conference, supporting program scheduling and oversight, maintaining inventory and assisting with the budget, and helping select and evaluate sub-varsity coaching staff. Requirements

• Previous baseball coaching experience; previous coaching experience is preferred.
• Superior technical knowledge of baseball, with emphasis on infield or outfield work.
• Proven ability to handle administrative responsibilities of a high school athletic program.
• Ability to communicate and foster and maintain positive relationships with students, coaches, administrators, news media, boosters, and parents.
• Transparent and proactive communication; organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to develop a safe and inclusive environment.
• High expectations and coaching with passion and integrity.
• Successful experience mentoring and developing a coaching staff.
• Familiarity with local and regional baseball organizations and willingness to establish relationships that support a smooth, positive transition between seasons.
• Proven ability to attract students to the program and retain them for multiple years.
• Ability to deal with and resolve conflict.
• Desire to serve others.
• Ability to understand and follow PNHS, PPS, and MHSAA policies.
• Must undergo a background check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Directly coach the Portage Northern JV Boys Baseball Team competing in the SMAC Conference.
• Assist the Varsity Baseball Coach in developing schedules.
• Set the direction for and oversee the sub-varsity program with the Varsity Coach.
• Maintain program inventory and work with the Varsity Coach on the program budget.
• Help select, manage, and evaluate sub-varsity coaching staff.
• Work closely with the Varsity Head Coach and other coaches within the program.
