About The Position

Kent Place School seeks a Head Junior Varsity Field Hockey Coach for the 2026-2027 season. The coach will educate and coach student-athletes in field hockey, provide leadership promoting positive attitudes and good sportsmanship, and ensure the health and physical well-being of student-athletes through planned practice sessions and competition strategies. The role involves coaching and instructing players, observing performance for improvement, determining game strategy, and managing administrative duties related to scheduling, supervision, and record-keeping. The coach is also expected to supervise assistant coaches, maintain equipment, and uphold professional standards of conduct, communication, and inclusivity.

Requirements

  • Experience at the high school level required.
  • Must have excellent communication and administrative skills.
  • Effective, active listening skills.
  • Have the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Complete all coaching accreditation modules and KPS training.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior coaching/playing experience at the collegiate level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate and coach Kent Place student-athletes in field hockey.
  • Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
  • Notifies team members of all Kent Place's policies, procedures, and training rules as they pertain to the team.
  • Plan and communicate practice sessions and competition strategies that ensure the health and physical well-being of student-athletes.
  • Coaches and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
  • Schedules and coordinates, in conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director, game schedules, practice schedules, team tryouts, preseason meetings, team workouts, and conditioning sessions.
  • Maintains, along with assistant coaches, the proper supervision of student-athletes at practices, games, and on school-provided transportation.
  • Maintains individual and team records and statistics.
  • Implements programmatic instruction of sequential fundamentals and proper conditioning for all levels of the program.
  • Supervises and assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, & requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Promotes good public relations through professional standards of conduct and presentation, as well as professional courtesy.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Adhere to best practices of diversity and inclusion so that interactions with students, colleagues, and other constituencies highlight awareness, competence, and sensitivity.
  • Attends a mandatory preseason parent meeting and training session with the Athletic Dept.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media and other stakeholders.
  • Participates in special activities, including senior day, parents' night, banquets, awards nights, admission panels, open days, coaching clinics, and pep assemblies.
  • Complete all coaching accreditation modules and KPS training.
