About The Position

The Head Golf Course Equipment Mechanic oversees all equipment maintenance, repair, and operational readiness for the Agronomy Department. This role is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, maintaining cutting units to factory specifications, and ensuring equipment consistently delivers high-quality performance. The Head Equipment Mechanic diagnoses and prioritizes repairs in coordination with the Golf Course Superintendent, manages maintenance budgets responsibly, and determines when replacement is more cost-effective than repair. Additionally, this role maintains appropriate inventory levels for essential parts, trains staff in proper equipment use, cleaning, and safety procedures, and supports agronomy operations as needed, including occasional weekend work. Strong daily communication with the Superintendent ensures alignment with course conditioning goals and operational priorities.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of internal combustion engines, diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and mowing equipment.
  • Understanding of reel grinding, bedknife setup, reel geometry, and quality-of-cut standards.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong welding and fabrication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and preventive maintenance/record-keeping systems.
  • Understanding of golf course operations and agronomic fundamentals.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair and safe operation of all golf course maintenance equipment.
