About The Position

Western Colorado University invites applications for the .5 position of Mountain Sports Freeride Coach. The Mountain Sports Freeride Coach (Freeride Coach) reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation – Mountain Sports (ADCR – Mountain Sports). The Freeride Coach will work with the ADCR – Mountain Sports for guidance on budgets and institutional policies. The Freeride coach is expected to develop and enhance training, competition and team cohesion. The Mountain Sports Freeride Coach works in collaboration with the other Freeride Ski and Snowboard coaches.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree
• 5 years of experience coaching and competing in skiing and/or snowboarding, preferably in freeride disciplines.

Nice To Haves

• IFSA Coaching Certification (Level 100 or higher)
• SafeSport Certification
• Additional sport-specific coaching certifications relevant to freeride skiing or snowboarding.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate Freeride training and practices including dryland training, on-snow training and education about equipment maintenance and repair.
• Demonstrate and teach effective ski/snowboard techniques appropriate for Freeride team athletes.
• Plan and execute a competition season through the International Freeskier and Snowboarder Association.
• Apply risk management best practices to all areas of the program and will communicate and enforce policies that pertain to the team.
• Aid the ADCR – Mountain Sports in program recruitment initiatives as well as assess and enhance athlete engagement.
• Work closely with the ADCR - Mountain Sports to plan and track the Freeride team's budget.
• Responsible for managing travel expenditures using a university purchasing card.
