About The Position

Mullen-Hall School is seeking a Head Custodian for the 2026-2027 School Year. This is a 12-month per year, 40-hour per week position. The Head Custodian plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of the school building, while also leading and developing the custodial staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician, upon hire.
  • Experience as a custodian.
  • Experience in performing and/or supervising electrical, plumbing, carpentry repairs and preventative plant maintenance.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to other custodians.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive rapport and respect with school officials, staff, students, and the public at all times.
  • Demonstrates reliability, dependability, and trustworthiness.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may deem appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with the Principal/Principal designee and the School community to support the building's culture and climate.
  • Report to both the School Principal and the Director of Finance and Operations.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate custodial work through routine visual inspections to ensure the building meets established cleanliness standards and provides a healthy, safe, and clean environment.
  • Lead custodial staff, setting standards and expectations.
  • Oversee Custodial Staff Training and Development.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for all custodians.
  • Direct custodial staff to accomplish daily tasks, including litter control, sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash collection, window washing, floor care, vacuuming, and checking fire extinguishers and exit signs.
  • Assist in preparation for lock-down and fire drills in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Perform repairs such as fixing broken lamps and moving furniture.
  • Operate boiler room and electrical switches.
  • Respond to and comply with daily work requests approved by the Principal.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair damaged items.
  • Repair and maintain equipment routinely.
  • Monitor building energy usage and implement energy conservation measures.
  • Monitor indoor air quality.
  • Supervise contractual services provided by vendors.
  • Serve as the primary response person for emergencies and alarms.
  • Participate in all required training and update training on mechanical equipment/systems and software.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, or Director of Finance & Operations.
