About The Position

This is a seasonal position assisting with Holiday Camp. The Head Counselor is directly responsible for the safety and supervision of camp participants and staff. They prepare daily activities, ensure camp counselors have the necessary materials and instructions, and lead daily camp activities. The Head Counselor maintains camper and counselor discipline, serves as a role model, and acts as a liaison between Camp Counselors and the Camp Director. They are responsible for reporting accidents and taking accurate attendance of campers daily. This role involves assisting with activity set-up/take-down, maintaining camp supplies and equipment, and helping with camp paperwork. Additionally, the Head Counselor may be required to safely transport participants in City of Georgetown vehicles.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years of experience working with children in a day camp setting.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of recreation programming.
  • Willing to work under direct supervision and follow given instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • General knowledge of camp and/or recreation programs.
  • Ability and experience to lead and supervise children.
  • Ability and experience to lead and supervise staff.
  • Ability to safely transport participants in City vehicles.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills.
  • Regular punctual attendance is required.
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License required.
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required.
  • Must pass post-offer, pre-employment drug testing and criminal background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of camp staff, participants, activities, and events.
  • Assists in creating, developing, and scheduling camp activities / events.
  • Assists with activity set-up / take-down and maintaining camp supplies and equipment.
  • Prepares daily activities and ensures camp counselors have materials and instructions necessary for activities.
  • Models appropriate and professional staff behavior and maintains counselor discipline as needed.
  • Supports Counselors with camper discipline as needed.
  • Provides reports on camper behavior to Camp Director.
  • Serves as liaison between Counselors and Camp Director.
  • Safely transports participants in City of Georgetown vehicles as needed for camp activities.
  • Helps maintain various Camp Goodwater paperwork and files.
  • Assists in training Counselors and setting up Goodwater spaces prior to camp session.
