About The Position

A Special Olympics Unified Bowling Head Coach leads a team made up of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. The Head Coach plans practices, teaches bowling skills, coordinates game-day setup, supervises assistant coaches, and promotes teamwork, inclusion, and fair play.

Requirements

Valid Colorado teaching license preferred; however, other candidate credentials will also be considered.
Must possess strong, comprehensive knowledge of the sport.
Experience working with middle and/or high school athletes.
Ability to work as an integral part of the coaching staff.
Must be knowledgeable about proper fitness and conditioning techniques for athletes and have a current First Aid certificate or equivalent.
Must complete state or local Special Olympics coaching certifications.
Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completion of these mandatory courses helps ensure compliance with state requirements while supporting a culture of safety and belonging across our schools. Two mandatory training courses must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire. These courses must be completed on their own time.

Responsibilities

Lead the training of participants in sport-specific techniques, fundamentals, sportsmanship, and the role of athletics in developing discipline and team cooperation; teach team concepts; and attend clinics and conferences with staff to stay current on trends in the sport.
Manage the inventory, issuance, control, collection, cleaning, and storage of all uniforms, equipment, materials, and supplies related to the sport.
Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal practice schedules and coordinate assistant coaches to maximize the effective use of personnel.
Submit end-of-season reports, inventory, and budget requests.
File an accident report for any student injured while under their supervision.
Organize and collaborate award presentations for sport.
Communicate special needs to the Special Olympics coordinator, including equipment, transportation, budget, fundraising ideas, game officials, and eligibility.
Ensure athletes do not practice or compete without all required documentation, including a current permission slip, physical examination, insurance waiver, and emergency form.
Maintain fairness and consistency in all decisions and judgments relating to sport participation.
Provide leadership that encourages students to improve academic success, maintain eligibility, improve attendance, and develop positive self-esteem throughout their high school years; perform other duties as assigned.
Fulfill the responsibilities of their teaching assignment as a priority if currently employed as a district teacher.
Adhere to the rules, regulations, stipulations, and policies of the Colorado High School Activities Association.
