About The Position

Under general supervision of Head Coach, Athletic Director and Principal. The Head Coach - Softball is responsible for carrying out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach and school administration. This role involves instructing athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success. The coach must have a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Governing Board and implement them consistently, along with existing school district, state, and regional regulations. The coach must understand and adhere to the proper administrative line of command, referring student and parent requests or grievances through the correct channels, and be aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings requiring attendance. The coach is also responsible for maintaining discipline and fostering morale and cooperation within the school sports program and the wider school community.

Requirements

  • Valid Arizona Teacher Certification or Substitute Certificate required.
  • Must have ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Must possess substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Must have a current, valid IVP Level One fingerprint clearance card without restrictions at the time of hire.
  • Must be able and willing to drive a district vehicle to transport students to matches and serve as the team's supervising adult.
  • Coach is required to have an Arizona driver's license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training.
  • Implement all athletic policies approved by the Governing Board.
  • Implement existing school district, state, and regional regulations consistently.
  • Understand and adhere to the proper administrative line of command, referring all students and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community.
  • Assist head coach in scheduling, providing transportation to tournaments and special sport events.
  • Assist in preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to scheduled facility times.
  • Coordinate program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provide athletic director with necessary documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Be accountable for all equipment, collect costs for lost or unreturned equipment.
  • Arrange issuing, marking, and storing of equipment, and submit annual inventory and current records.
  • Coordinate all equipment processing with the equipment manager.
  • Monitor locker rooms, equipment room, training room, and coaches' offices, and authorize entry.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building.
  • Coordinate with custodial staff on duty.
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
  • Supervise athletes and the assigned team.
  • Assume supervisory control over all athletes in the program when such control is needed.
