About The Position

This is a Head Coach position for Middle School Boys Flag Football. The role involves planning practices, supervising athletes, reporting to the Athletic Coordinator, developing and enforcing team rules, and providing leadership. The coach may also be responsible for transporting the team to away contests if school transportation is unavailable. The position requires proficiency in ASL, CPR/First Aid certification, and adherence to safety protocols including background checks and drug testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Background experience, training or coursework in the particular sport
  • Receptive and expressive manual communication skills if working with hearing impaired students
  • CPR/First Aid certificate upon hire
  • Proficient ASL Required
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports certification
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Pass FBI and State background check
  • Defensive Driver Training Program completion
  • NFHS (National Federation of High Schools) Coaches Education certification
  • Valid Arizona Dept. of Education certificate in Athletic Coaching, Elementary, Secondary, or Special Education (for High School Head Coaches)
  • Pass post offer physical
  • Current CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • First Aid certification
  • Crisis Intervention Training or certification

Nice To Haves

  • In the event the school's transportation department is unable to provide transportation, the coach(es) may be assigned the responsibility of transporting the team to an away contest in school vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Plan practices
  • Supervise athletes at all times
  • Report to Athletic Coordinator regarding accidents, equipment needs, eligibility rosters, transportation and meal requests, equipment/uniform inventory
  • Develop team rules and enforce them in a fair and equitable manner
  • Provide appropriate leadership/role model for athletes
  • Safely lift and transport non-ambulatory students
  • Other duties as outlined in the coaches' manual
