About The Position

The University of Redlands is seeking a Head Coach for Men's Volleyball. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position responsible for the overall management and success of the men's volleyball program. The role involves recruiting student-athletes, supervising coaching staff, planning and scheduling practices and competitions, managing the program's budget and fundraising efforts, ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, and collaborating with various university departments. The Head Coach will also teach Physical Education activity courses and undertake departmental administrative assignments.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of volleyball coaching experience.
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies, sensitivity to multicultural issues, and the ability to work productively in a collaborative environment to meet deadlines.
  • History of success as a coach as evidenced by sustained win/loss record, team achievements, as well as individual accomplishments by student-athletes under tutelage.
  • A valid California Class C drivers’ license with a good driving record is required.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in a related field.
  • Previous head coaching experience and/or collegiate coaching experience, with an emphasis on an NCAA setting.
  • Experience utilizing and managing athletic facilities and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment of qualified student-athletes for admission into the University of Redlands and participation in the men’s volleyball program.
  • Supervises, plans, directs, and assigns work of men’s volleyball coaching staff, which could include a 10-month full-time assistant and/or one part-time assistant coach.
  • Makes hiring and disciplinary decisions for assistant coaches; provides feedback on performance and approves timesheets.
  • Schedules practices, competitions, scrimmages, and exhibition matches, and coordinates travel for the men’s volleyball program, in collaboration with those who share the facilities.
  • Oversight of budget administration and annual fundraising for the men’s volleyball program.
  • Effectively works in partnership with the Advancement and Alumni Relations offices to build relationships with friends of Bulldog men’s volleyball.
  • Ensures all facets of the men’s volleyball program, including staff, student-athletes, and others associated with the program, maintain compliance with all NCAA, SCIAC, and University rules and regulations at all times.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Facilities staff on care and maintenance of Currier Gym, including general maintenance and upkeep, short-term and long-term improvement planning.
  • Teaches Physical Education activity courses based on assigned load during the academic year.
  • Execution of a collateral departmental administrative assignment to be performed in support of programs and the department.
  • Functions as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
