About The Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Head Coach is responsible for the planning, organization, administration of all non-academic aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program, and adhering to the District Athletic Department Philosophy. The duties may be modified to meet the needs of the Athletic Department, College, and Program of Assignment. JOB DESCRIPTION Conducts self as a personal example of positive demeanor for the athletes and represents the school in a favorable manner. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development. Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competitions. Assigns duties to an assistant coach(es) as necessary. Maintain a current compliant status for attending and participating in all required District Training including Title X, Title IX, Unlawful Discrimination, Technology Use, California Ed Code, Orange Empire Conference Bylaws, and 3C2A Bylaws. Comply with the academic policies established by the NOCCCD and the CCCAA and maintain an environment for all student athletes in the Program in which the pursuit of higher education is a priority as reflected by class attendance, grade point averages, the CCCAA academic progress rates ( APR ), and graduation rates. Assigned as Campus Security Authority (“CSA”) as defined by the Clery Act. As a CSA , Head Coach will comply with NOCCCD policies on the reporting of crime statistics and related information to the official designated by the College for the purposes of Clery Act reporting. Responsible as defined by NOCCCD policies on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, as a Responsible Employee, Head Coach shall report all incidents of sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) and other inappropriate sexual conduct to the Campus and NOCCCD Title IX Coordinator or other appropriate designee as required by NOCCCD policy. Coaches and directs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities. Understands and agrees final medical decision regarding student-athlete participation in organized practices and/or competitions shall be made by the athletic training staff under the direction of team physician and consultation with team physician. Assigned to students as life coaches and to the academic athlete center to provide tutoring, mentoring, and general guidance to students for the purpose of academic and athletic success. Recruit new athletes for the team; Ensures the appropriate implementation of sporting techniques; Mentoring players to develop sportsmanship and respect for the game. Motivating players to improve and develop. Recommends to the Athletics Director regarding the employment and salary of all assistant coaches and support staff; has authority and responsibility to make decisions as to the hiring, continued employment, job titles, compensation and discharge of assistant coaches and all other personnel employed exclusively for the Program as approved and authorized by the Athletic Director and or the Dean of the Division. All such decisions shall be made in consultation with the Athletics Director and are subject to the prior approval of the Athletics Director and will be in accordance with the policies and procedures of the NOCCCD’s guidelines. Assign duties and supervise the performance of the assistant coaches and all other personnel assigned to the Program; plan, supervise, and coordinate the recruitment and training of student athletes for the Program. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student. Follows state, conference, and district regulations governing the athletic program. Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. Agrees to represent the College in an honorable and ethical manner at all times. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies. Responsible for the design and implantation of fundraising activities for the assigned sport or other sports in the division at the college of assignment. cooperate fully with the NOCCCD in promoting the Program, the NOCCCD’s Athletic Programs and Services, the NOCCCD , the NOCCCD’s Alumni Association, and other NOCCCD -affiliated organizations. Such cooperation includes, but is not limited to, attendance and participation at meetings, events, and media outlets of the NOCCCD and NOCCCD -affiliated organization. Adhere to the NOCCCD’s Athletics department policy and procedures and shall have team rules which must be approved by the Athletics Director prior to implementation or enforcement. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records. Maintain accurate team records as required, which could include but not be limited to team lists, score books, statistics, etc.; Maintain, inventory, and assist in ordering all equipment needed for all phases of a designated sport program. Models are nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Organize and coordinate all phases of the assigned sports program including in-season, off-season, and summer. Coach athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of a designated sport throughout the season Providing coaching feedback during competitions; Supervise athletes during practices, at home and away games. Responsible to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the Program and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators involved with the Program who report directly or indirectly to Head Coach. Assist the Athletic Director with determining equipment needs, purchasing, and payment of equipment for the Sport(s) program(s). Responsible to follow all applicable local, State, Federal, District and CCCAA governing rules and regulations at all times during the term of this agreement. Learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner. Participate in District/College efforts to increase the diversity of faculty and staff and to address student achievement gaps; active assistance in the creation of a welcoming and inclusive work and educational environment; attend and participate in diversity, equity and inclusion trainings and events. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Athletics Director including but not limited to: A. Planning and oversight of camps and/or clinics. B. Academic, Student Services, and Compliance support. C. Assisting with Supervision of Events and Game Management. D. Assisting with facility rentals, facility scheduling, and outside usage oversight. E. Assisting with equipment room and/or Sports Information needs. F. Assisting with planning and execution of special projects and events. G. Assisting with transportation and officials scheduling for athletic events. H. Additional duties related to coaching, student-athlete success, or general athletic operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, and two (2) years of professional experience directly related to Head Coach OR an associate degree, with six years of professional experience directly related to Head Coach, OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
