About The Position

Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the E-Sports Head Coach is responsible for any and all levels of an Electronic Sports Competition Team over the course of a season. The Head Coach will be responsible for adhering to guidelines as set forth for Interscholastic Sports and CVUHSD athletics programs, organizing team selection, organizing practices, developing teamwork and strategies for success, supervising athletes, supervising competitions, managing technical aspects of practices and competitions, and promoting positive attendance and academic success. Additionally, the Head Coach will be responsible for performing related duties as required. The Head Coach is responsible for various aspects of the program, such as recruiting within the school, scheduling opponents (in conjunction with the Athletic Director), training, and coaching team members. The Head Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations as well as the rules and regulations set by the Centinela Valley Union High School District and the athletic administration.

Requirements

  • Experience with gaming (gameplay, strategies, equipment, etc.).
  • Knowledge of gaming platforms and multiplayer games.
  • Knowledge of CyberSafety and the ability to appropriately train and monitor athletes online.
  • Ability to provide basic technical support for E-Sports hardware and software.
  • Ability to develop teamwork and collaboration among a group of students in a competitive environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to support students' academic expectations, responsibilities, and achievements.
  • Ability to maintain organization, communication, and effective relationships with administrators, parents and athletes.
  • Ability to develop and communicate clear and specific goals for a team and individual players.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount.
  • Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of NFHS and CIF rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-E-Sports competitors
  • The applicant must possess the ability to communicate in spoken and written word.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • The applicant must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the E-Sports platform.
  • The applicant must be willing to accept a high level of accountability.
  • The applicant must possess the ability to assess players and coaches effectively.
  • The applicant should be professionally calm and motivationally intense.
  • The applicant should be a progressive thinker but a believer in planning and preparation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in E-Sports Competition in one or more of the following games: Fortnite, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Smite, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros.
  • Past experience as an E-Sports Club Advisor
  • Advanced knowledge and experience to support technical aspects of E-Sports, to include networking, hardware, software, programming, etc.
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching or Sport Specific

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise E-Sports activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in E-Sports skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Prepare E-Sports platform on Game Day and manage logistics for all lower level competitions
  • Check and respond to Centinela email on a regular basis
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of E-Sports competitors
  • Coordinate the development and promotion of the specific Program.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of E-Sport competitors
  • Ensure all coaches work together toward a common goal within the program and provide unity within all levels of the program.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' e-sports abilities initially and on a regular basis.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Hold a preseason meeting with all E-Sports competitors and parents before the first official game.
  • Assess players' skills and assign teams.
  • Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during E-Sports contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of E-Sports participation at all times (coaches and athletes)
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-E-Sports competitors, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
  • Maintain and secure all equipment.
  • Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all E-Sports equipment.
  • Communicating with the Athletic Director to ensure compliance with all pertinent CIF regulations, including eligibility forms, transfer forms, and grade reports.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Assist student E-Sports competitors with college recruitment.
  • Assist the Athletic Director with the scheduling of games and coordinate arrangements.
  • Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with the news media, and other organizations.
  • Participate in special activities to include senior night, banquets, award nights and pep assemblies.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding performance of their student.
  • Represent the Centinela Valley Union High School District and program in a professional manner.
  • Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
  • Recommend, advocate, and attend all league, all area, and other award nominations.
