About The Position

Notre Dame Prep is seeking a Head Coach for its Cross Country team. This part-time, non-benefit-eligible position, anticipated from August 17 through October 30, is responsible for leading, developing, and managing a competitive sports team. The role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of the sport, and the ability to foster an environment of sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. The Head Coach will oversee all team operations, including practice and game schedules, athlete recruitment, and coordination with school departments. This position serves as a role model, promoting the school's mission and values.

Requirements

  • First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of Notre Dame Prep, with a focus on character development, sportsmanship, and academic excellence.
  • Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure, particularly during competitions.
  • Strong understanding of the importance of balancing academics and athletics for student-athletes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information regarding student-athletes.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, with a proven record of success in the sport.
  • Experience as a head coach is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the sport, including its rules, strategies, and techniques.
  • Strong leadership, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective training programs and game strategies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and competitive team culture.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and injury prevention in sports.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices to develop athlete skills, fitness, and teamwork.
  • Lead and motivate student-athletes, ensuring focus, discipline, and respect.
  • Set clear goals and expectations for the team and work with athletes to achieve them.
  • Ensure team members understand strategies, tactics, and skills for high-level competition.
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude.
  • Develop game strategies and prepare the team for competition.
  • Supervise and manage all aspects of game day, including warm-ups, substitutions, and in-game adjustments.
  • Work with the Athletic Director to schedule games, tournaments, and competitions.
  • Coordinate with opposing teams, officials, and event organizers.
  • Develop individualized player development plans.
  • Monitor academic performance of athletes and ensure eligibility.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment for academic, athletic, and personal excellence.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on athlete progress, team performance, and other data.
  • Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and school administration about schedules and team matters.
  • Hold regular meetings with team members to discuss performance, goals, and issues.
  • Assist in organizing team events such as team-building activities, banquets, and fundraisers.
  • Ensure adherence to all school, league, and state regulations and policies.
  • Monitor the physical health and safety of student-athletes during practice and games.
  • Work closely with athletic trainers and medical staff for athlete treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and meets safety standards.
  • Return all equipment at the conclusion of the season.
  • Work closely with the Athletic Director and other coaches to develop the overall athletic program.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive sports culture within the school.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to the goals of the athletics program.
  • Support and encourage involvement in school events and activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure balance between academics and athletics.
  • Promote the team and athletic program to the school community, alumni, parents, and supporters.
  • Represent the team and school at Open House, community events, and alumni gatherings.
  • Foster a culture of pride and support for the team, encouraging school spirit and fan engagement.
