About The Position

The Head Coach - Cross Country position at Parkrose High School for the 2026-2027 season is responsible for leading the cross country program from September to November. The coach will provide a positive learning environment, teach essential skills, manage athlete behavior, supervise assistant coaches, and uphold school policies. This role also involves promoting the sport within the district and community, attending all scheduled events, and organizing regular practice sessions to develop athletes' potential.

Requirements

Successful coaching experience in the sport.
Experience with high school students and the sport/activity.
Verification of identity and prior employment
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance by the State Department of Education.
Online district required trainings through online Safe Schools Program
Current First Aid and CPR/AED card
ASEP/NFHS Coaching certification
OSAA Concussion certification
OSAA Steroid certification
OSAA Heat Prevention Requirement certification
OSAA and District Eligibility requirements met.

Responsibilities

Provide a positive learning environment and be a positive role model for the athletes.
Teach the skills necessary for successful performance in the sport.
Manage athlete behavior during training sessions, meets and events.
Supervisor Assistant Coaches.
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and School Board Policies.
Attend all meets and events scheduled for the sport, including coaches’ meetings.
Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the idea of developing the athlete’s greatest potential.
Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
Keep current with new knowledge and innovative ideas and techniques in the sport.
Responsible for promoting designated sport throughout the School District and community in a positive and responsible manner.
