About The Position

Engineering a world of possibilities Colorado School of Mines Department of Athletics invites applications for the Head Baseball Coach. Mines is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. Located along the front range of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Mines is just minutes away from Boulder and Denver offering a unique combination of mountain living coupled with large city amenities. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Golden is an ideal location to program year-round recreational activities. Mines is an NCAA Division II member and competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The Head Coach will be evaluated based on the competitiveness of the program, overall student-athlete development by way of a meaningful educational experience for student-athletes as a mentor, educator and role model. In addition, the Head Coach will be responsible for supporting the philosophy, goals and mission of both the university and its intercollegiate athletics program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 3-5 years of experience as an assistant or a head coach at the collegiate level
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • CPR & First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire date)
  • Demonstrated skills in recruitment, instruction, practice/game plan development, fiscal management, staff supervision, general administrative duties, and an understanding of NCAA, and RMAC rules compliance
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to successfully build and manage relationships in a complex organization
  • Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years as head coach in NCAA with demonstrated results leading and coaching a high-caliber sports program in a highly competitive, academic environment
  • Ability to mentor and lead assistant coaches by example and facilitate their professional development and growth
  • Ability to represent a public persona that aligns with Mines values
  • Ability to work with a diverse community, alumni, Boosters and Mines Foundation
  • Ability to delegate appropriately to assistant coaches and other staff members directly involved with the baseball program

  • Basic knowledge and ability to fund raise through donor relations

Responsibilities

  • Organizing camps and clinics in support of Mines athletics
  • Fund-raising
  • Adherence to NCAA, RMAC and Mines rules and regulations
  • General administrative duties
  • Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with student-athletes and parents, ensuring goal alignment and overall health and well-being.
  • Actively contribute to the goals and success of all team members through collaboration, cooperation and accountability.
  • Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponent teams.
  • Assist in designing game plans and strategies.
  • Facilitate coaches’ preparatory meetings and pivot during the game to optimize winning.
  • Exhibit sound judgment in advising and counseling student athletes about academics and athletics issues.
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing campus visits by prospective athletes.
  • Adhere to the NCAA ethics and conduct requirements.
  • Refers to NCAA, Conference and University manuals, policies, and procedures.
