About The Position

The Head Cheerleader Coach is responsible for educating and inspiring student athletes to be the best version of themselves. This role is directly responsible to the Principal and the Director of Athletics, and any activity sponsored by EHS Athletics is considered part of the total program offered by EHS. The coach must utilize sound educational principles and goals to ensure athletics are a worthwhile part of the overall school program.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of football cheerleading and its rules, and ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.
  • Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues, and other citizens.
  • CPR Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Cheerleading coaching experience is desirable.
  • Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred.
  • Completion of the MIAA Coaches Education Class and/or other requirements by the MIAA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Maintain accurate records of team lists, injury reports, scores of games, stats, incident reports, and physical examinations.
  • Be available during the entire school year to lend assistance in guidance and counseling to team members regarding scholastic achievement, college entrance, and citizenship.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Determine the athlete’s academic eligibility.
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the EHS Student Handbook.
  • Oversee the safety conditions of the facility of the area in which the assigned sport is played at all times that students are present.
  • Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached, including supervision of the weight room, locker room, and shower areas until secured.
  • Enforce discipline and encourage sportsmanship-like behavior according to standards set by the Principal and Athletic Department.
  • Attend all Athletic Department and EHS meetings that deal directly with the sport coached, including MIAA, GBL, Coaches Associations, and Athletic Awards meetings.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their sport.
  • Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures daily.
  • Give personal support to the entire EHS staff.
  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of EHS athletics.
  • Work with community members involved in youth sports to encourage continued participation in sports at the high school level.
  • Organize and instruct clinics for youth programs and coaches of the individual sport.
  • Directly supervise squad members at home and away contests.
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment.
  • Be responsible for equipment not returned by team members at the designated time.
  • Organize and post a daily schedule for the team and assistant coaches.
  • Perform all other duties as the principal and/or athletic director may deem to be in the best interest of the sport, pupil, and school.
