About The Position

The Head Cashier is responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing front-end operations, and supporting the front-end team. This role involves assisting customers with self-checkout, processing transactions, and ensuring a safe and clean store environment. The Head Cashier also plays a role in coaching and training other associates.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smart phones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs, including credit cards, installations, add-on sales, protection plans, and explaining warranties, product features, and benefits.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field, including directing, delegating, evaluating, training, and coaching employees.
  • Less than a year of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting (e.g., merchandise hidden inside of containers, merchandise under carts, price labels switched).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at self-checkout registers.
  • Proactively greet, assist, and engage with multiple customers.
  • Move throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and moving product.
  • Provide SMART customer service according to Lowe's policies.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably and promptly to customer and employee questions.
  • Communicate information about stock, special orders, feature benefits, applications, and warranties.
  • Coach, develop, provide feedback, and train associates.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register.
  • Provide proper monetary change to CSA Front End associates.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and support to the CSA Front End Team.
  • Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct calls or take messages.
  • Open additional registers as needed to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Assist in line management to improve checkout turnaround time.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring functionality of registers and scanners, and stocking supplies.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages.
  • Enter and submit customer orders, print order tickets, verify receipts, and sign off on loading tickets.
  • Review and place online orders and returned merchandise in appropriate areas.
  • Look up product information and competitor prices for price matching.
  • Record items used in the store on store use lists.
  • Obtain safety bags and monitor cash in drawers to ensure it does not exceed requirements.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving store entrances and exits, and assist customers or associates who trigger alarms.
  • Detect and report signs of shoplifting, theft, and other security risks to management or Asset Protection.
  • Ensure compliance with housekeeping standards and programs to maintain cleanliness and organization.
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment, including conducting safety reviews, noting hazards, keeping aisles clear, and securing doors and gates.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements relevant to job duties.
  • Operate store equipment as needed.
