About The Position

The Head High School Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for initiating various aspects of the Basketball Program, such as recruiting within the school, training, and coaching the members of the Basketball program. This role involves coordinating the development and promotion of the Basketball program, assessing player skills, assigning team positions, and organizing practice sessions. The coach is responsible for the supervision of each student-athlete under the care of the basketball program, including transporting team members to athletic contests and representing Leavenworth High School positively at all times.

Requirements

  • Verifiable age equivalent basketball coaching experience.
  • A proven track record with age appropriate skill and program development.
  • KSHSAA and NFHS certification required for coaching. (Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports, First Aid Safety, and Health)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant check of student athlete’s grades and conduct.
  • Recruit within the school, train, and coach the members of the Basketball program.
  • Coordinate the development and promotion of the Basketball program.
  • Assess player’s skill and assigns team positions.
  • Organize and schedule practice sessions.
  • Teach life skills and develop character.
  • Timely and effectively communicate with the athletic director, parents, players, and administrators.
  • Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Maintain and secure all Basketball equipment and uniforms.
  • Manage court care and maintenance.
  • Ensure all eligibility documents are completed and submitted timely.
  • Ensure inventory documentation is turned in on time.
  • Hold a parents/guardians meeting with all student athletes parents/guardians before the first official game.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Represent RWMS and the Basketball program in a professional manner.
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director or other appropriated administrators.
