About The Position

St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking a dedicated and faith-aligned Athletic Trainer to join our Guardian Athletics Department. This individual will serve as the primary healthcare professional for our student-athletes, providing comprehensive sports medicine services, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Athletic Trainer will oversee and mentor our Student Athletic Training Program, helping develop students interested in sports medicine through hands-on learning, guidance, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited athletic training program
  • BOC (Board of Certification) Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the State of Texas
  • CPR/AED certification required
  • Strong knowledge of sports medicine, injury care, and rehabilitation
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends (game coverage required)
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
  • Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a high school or collegiate athletic setting
  • Experience mentoring or leading student athletic trainers
  • Familiarity with TAPPS or similar athletic governing bodies
  • Experience working within a faith-based educational environment

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Provide on-site medical coverage for athletic practices and competitions
  • Evaluate, assess, and manage athletic injuries and illnesses
  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs and protocols
  • Administer first aid and emergency care when necessary
  • Design and oversee rehabilitation and return-to-play plans
  • Maintain accurate and timely injury documentation and medical records
  • Communicate effectively with coaches, parents, physicians, and administration
  • Coordinate referrals to outside medical providers when appropriate
  • Oversee and maintain athletic training facilities, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist with concussion management protocols and education
  • Support compliance with TAPPS, school, and Archdiocesan policies
  • Oversee, develop, and guide the Student Athletic Training Program
  • Provide mentorship and hands-on instruction to student trainers
  • Assign and supervise student trainers for practices and competitions
  • Teach proper taping, basic injury care, and sports medicine fundamentals
  • Promote professionalism, accountability, and growth within the program
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administration, and coaches.
  • Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program.
  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.

  • Equip and empower assistant coaches to be spiritual guides for student-athletes
  • Attend and participate in a team mass and community service project
  • Encourage student-athletes to integrate their faith on the sidelines, in competitions, and their everyday lives.
