Requirements

  • Master’s Degree, Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers and/or Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer.
  • If outside of Texas, candidates must be eligible for Texas State Licensure.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and sports medicine standards of care.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Non-traditional work hours including nights, weekend and travel are required.
  • The ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and to drive personal, institutional and rental vehicles are required.
  • Must be able to move medical equipment and supplies weighing up to 75-100 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to three (2-3) years employed experience as a certified athletic trainer in secondary school, collegiate or professional athletics is preferred.
  • Candidates with experience in therapeutic exercise, manual therapy or soft tissue certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates medical care of intercollegiate student-athletes consistent with the Tarleton State Sports Medicine Guidelines. Care includes the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, return to play decisions and emergency care of injuries and/or illnesses
  • Supports assigned varsity team(s); handle walk-in-care and supports special events as assigned
  • Provides appropriate practice and game day coverage, including team travel as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
  • Implement measures to prevent injuries and prepare athletes for practice and competition, including taping, bracing, therapeutic exercise, movement screens and wearable technology
  • Refers student-athletes to team physicians as appropriate and implements physician’s instructions regarding management of athletic injuries
  • Makes appropriate decisions regarding the sports medicine emergency action plans and carries out plans for each athletic venue
  • Supports the education of Tarleton State’s Masters Athletic Training Students through their preceptor role
  • Maintains Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers and/or Texas Athletic Training Licensure; Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University and Tarleton State Athletics
  • Employs the standards, practices and procedures of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Western Athletic Conference and Texas Department of License and Regulation
  • Communicates professionally and effectively across multiple stakeholders including but not limited to, student-athletes, athletic training staff, athletic training students, team physicians, coaches, athletic administration, strength and conditioning staff, MSAT and Kinesiology faculty, other sports medicine umbrella practitioners and campus colleagues
  • Prepares and maintains medical records, including but not limited to the documentation of injury reports, medical treatments, rehabilitation programs, medical referrals and other medical records
  • Carries out NCAA and/or Institutional Drug Testing per the respective protocols
  • Carries out various administrative duties needed to maintain operational procedures of a Division I Athletic Training Facility per Tarleton State Sports Medicine Guidelines
  • Completes all Texas A&M System and Tarleton State University training requirements on time
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority
  • Reports non-compliance incidents to their supervisor, manager and/or compliance officer
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of and adheres to and enforces all Tarleton, Association, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
