About The Position

Carthage College Athletics is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Athletic Trainer to join our sports medicine team. This full-time, eleven-month position is designed to support a healthy work-life balance, with a typical workload of 40 hours per week during the academic year. June provides optional opportunities to work paid summer camps or enjoy time off, while July offers additional camp opportunities and flexibility through a remote workload. Carthage College is committed to the professional growth of its staff by providing fully funded continuing education, as well as coverage of BOC, NATA, and state licensure dues. Additional benefits include tuition remission for employees and their dependents. In this role, the successful candidate will serve as the primary athletic trainer for the Carthage football program, providing comprehensive medical coverage and collaborating closely with coaches, student-athletes, and healthcare providers to support the health and performance of the team. Additional sport assignments may be determined based on departmental needs and the expertise of the selected candidate, in consultation with athletic training leadership. The position offers the opportunity to work with student-athletes across 28 NCAA Division III programs and may include travel with assigned teams. The athletic trainer will also collaborate with the Carthage College Athletic Training Education Program, a CAATE-accredited master's-level program, serving as a preceptor and mentor to graduate athletic training students. Opportunities may also exist for academic teaching appointments within the School of Health, Allied Health Science, and Master of Athletic Training Program, with associated stipend compensation.

Requirements

  • BOC-certified and licensed athletic trainer, or eligible for licensure, in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in supervising and mentoring Athletic Training students is preferred.
  • Graduate Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all NATA, CCIW Conference, and NCAA guidelines, directives, and recommendations.
  • Provide immediate emergency care for athletic injuries.
  • Coordinate injury prevention programs and manage athlete health concerns.
  • Refer athletes to appropriate medical professionals, including doctors or emergency departments, as needed.
  • Evaluate injuries, develop treatment plans, and supervise rehabilitation programs.
  • Oversee daily activities of Athletic Training students, ensuring a productive learning environment.
  • Complete timely evaluations of Athletic Training students under your supervision.
  • Serve as a liaison between athletes, coaching staff, parents, and medical providers.
  • Ensure proper selection and fitting of protective equipment for athletes.
  • Maintain and manage accurate medical records for athletes.
  • Exhibit professionalism and commitment to ongoing professional development in Athletic Training.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine.
