The Head Athletic Coach is responsible for coaching and overseeing the activities of the team. The terms of employment are designated by the contract. The coach must adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance. This role involves promoting sports within the schools and community, planning the assigned program, including organizing and supervising practices and scheduling events and competitions with the Athletic Director. Effective communication with students, parents, and the community regarding program objectives is essential. The coach must establish clear, written rules and regulations for athletes, including specific disciplinary consequences for infractions, which must be reviewed with team members and signed by students. The position requires teaching fundamental skills, team play, strategy, and the rules of the sport, while also instilling good sportsmanship, self-control, and respect for others. The coach is responsible for verifying participant eligibility, including insurance, physicals, and parent consent, and enforcing KHSAA requirements and academic progress standards. Maintaining clean, orderly, and secure facilities, providing a positive role model, emotional support, and guidance to students are key aspects of the role. The coach will conduct learning experiences with small groups, recommend equipment purchases for athlete safety and welfare, and develop opportunities for student participation. Criteria for competition selection and team leader determination are also part of the responsibilities. The coach must provide leadership and coaching techniques to make Powell County Schools competitive and manage the team budget, including planning fundraisers and maintaining accurate financial records. All purchases and registrations must be pre-approved by the Athletic Director. Responsible behavior during travel is expected, and students should be encouraged to appreciate their classmates, school, and community.
