About The Position

The Department of Medicine at The University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) is recruiting an exceptional head and neck oncologist/thoracic oncologist, with a cancer research focus, to join our faculty in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence, cancer research focus and an interest in education as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience. Cancer research focus would include health services or clinical trial research, and priority areas include genomics, precision medicine and cancer therapeutics. Interest in cellular therapy is also considered. This position would be active in multi-disciplinary thoracic oncology programs. The academic clinician will be expected to engage in active collaborative research, build clinical trials and/or health services in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding. Informatics Leadership Opportunity: Qualified oncology candidates with an interest in healthcare informatics may be considered for an additional leadership role within UW Health Medical Informatics. Protected informatics effort may be available based on organizational needs and candidate qualifications. Areas of focus may include clinical and applied informatics, research informatics, digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and technology-enabled care transformation. Informatics responsibilities and associated FTE, if applicable, would be determined through a separate discussion during the recruitment process.

Requirements

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology or Hematology is required by the appointment start date.
  • American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.
  • Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
  • MD, DO, or equivalent is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.
  • For an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS or CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS or CT Track.
  • Clinical and research responsibilities with interest in head and neck oncology, thoracic oncology.
  • Experience in clinical, translational or basic science research, with a track record of successful publications in peer-reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, evidence of excellence in teaching and current or high potential to obtain extramural funding.
  • Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 60-65% direct patient care at UW Health locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending.
  • Proactively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.
  • Developing and teaching a research or education program (40% protected time).
  • Engaging in related scholarly activity.
  • Participating in clinical teaching of fellows, residents and medical students.
  • Supporting the teaching and clinical research missions of the division and department.
  • Participating in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • Working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Engage in active collaborative research.
  • Build clinical trials and/or health services in the division.
  • Obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.
