About The Position

Peak Utility Infrastructure is an integrated engineering and construction company that serves the Electric, Natural Gas, and Telecommunications industries. The HDD Foreman II is the first line of supervision to field crews, providing daily leadership to ensure a safe working environment, quality workmanship, customer satisfaction, and compliance with governmental agencies. This role involves assisting the Drill Operator in locating the drill head, drilling in accordance with blueprints, verifying locate marks, and confirming the location of existing facilities. The position also includes assisting with clean-up and other assigned duties, as well as maintaining equipment per manufacturer’s specifications and safety guidelines. The role demonstrates and promotes Peak Utilities Services Group and Subsidiaries Core values.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years demonstrated Horizontal Directional Drilling locating experience.
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in a utility construction role is required.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utilities.
  • Possession of a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) is required.
  • Candidates must pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), a Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated physical as a requirement of the job and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Maintain valid Commercial Driver’s License CDL Class A, with airbrake endorsement and tanker endorsement.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications).
  • Understanding of client and company work specifications.
  • Ability to comply with the “Operator’s Manual” for your particular equipment.
  • Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded.
  • Ability to read and comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift.
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers.
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy.
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of underground pot holing is a plus.
  • 2-3 years demonstrated experience in dry utilities is preferred.
  • Prior crew coordination experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily leadership over crews to ensure a safe working environment, quality workmanship, customer satisfaction, and compliance with governmental agencies.
  • Confirms bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path).
  • Performs job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork.
  • Ensures there are proper clearances to install the product per standards.
  • Records the depth of the tool head every 10 feet or sooner if needed.
  • Ensures the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product.
  • May drive equipment to job site.
  • Oversees laborers and/or crew members' work and monitors time usage.
  • Conducts post-job quality checks and clean up.
  • Cleans, checks fluid levels, and conducts a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure optimal safety.
  • Performs required pre-trip, post-trip inspections and required paperwork.
  • Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork (i.e. Dailies labor hours, F and D tickets, vehicle maintenance reports, etc.).
  • Follows specifications for the job and company policies.
  • Complies with safety procedures while driving and at job site.
  • Strives for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and directs crew on tasks.
  • At end of workday, truck and equipment should be returned to shop and secured.
  • Collects and monitors daily time and material coordination sheets coming from the field crews.
  • Verifies that transactions comply with Xcel Gas contracts and standards and Peak Utilities Services Group and Subsidiaries policies and procedures.
  • Updates daily crew schedules and communications to Peak Utilities Services Group and Subsidiaries Supervisors.
  • Processes Xcel job packets, coordinates with permit technician and coordinates the accuracy and updates for Material Releases for individual projects.
  • Verifies client invoices against projects for proper billing.
  • Monitors and manages employee attendance and material coordination sheets from the field crews.
  • Updates daily crew schedules and communications to operating company Supervisors.
  • Processes client job packets, coordinates with permit technician and coordinates the accuracy and updates for Material Releases for individual projects.
  • Assists in the coordination and delivery of client notification letters.
  • Schedules locates, locate meets and municipal inspector meetings.
  • Maintains organized system of document retention.
  • Maintains updated job scheduling and completion records.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal departments regarding time reports, billing, unit and Time and Expense questions.
  • Schedules quality and safety crew inspections for Operations management.
  • Supports the coordination of third-party vendor rentals and repairs for individual job projects.
  • Coordinates and schedules the inspection and certification of tool and equipment inspection.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of ancillary services on projects with Supervisor’s assistance.
  • Maintains a log with phone calls, discussions, requests, events, emails, and similar.
  • Gives estimated times, materials, equipment and supplies needed.
  • Sends crews on assignments and assists with operational tasks.
  • Monitors inventories and requests supplies and equipment needed.
  • Identifies hazardous materials prior to commencing work using the Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Utilizes a proactive approach to anticipate and resolve potential issues.
  • Disciplines and coaches employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
