About The Position

The HDD Drill Operator will be responsible for operating Horizontal Directional Drill Machines in central Indiana and surrounding areas in the Midwest. This role requires travel during the week, with most weekends at home. The operator will also be responsible for general maintenance on the directional drill, helping the crew with other tasks as needed, and understanding utility locations. A solid understanding of trenching and excavation safety is essential, as is the ability to operate excavators, loaders, skid steers, and backhoes as needed. Other duties may be requested by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experienced Horizontal Directional Drill Operator
• Prior experience in underground utility work.
• Solid understanding of trenching and excavation safety.
• Strong independent work ethic with ability to work within a team.
• Clear and concise communications.
• Strong sense of urgency, focusing on time.
• Be in a local operators union or willingness to get into one

Nice To Haves

• Operate HDD Locator
• Help with HDPE Fusion
• Water and sewer installation and testing
• Fusion experience and certification for HDPE
• Class A CDL or willingness to get one

Responsibilities

• Help Locate Utilities and know and understand what you will be crossing
• Water and sewer installation and testing a plus
• Operate Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steer, Backhoe as needed.
• General Maintenance on the directional drill
• Other duties as requested by the supervisor.
