About The Position

Under the direction of the District Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Behavior Technician assists in the instruction and supervision of individual students. Support may include implementing replacement behaviors, managing difficult behaviors, facilitating student peer interactions, and other supports as assigned. The Behavior Technician may work in special and/or general education classrooms; positions may be fixed or variable throughout the school day and year, depending on student needs. Students may become physically-evasive and physical intervention may be required. Although most work is performed on a school site, the Behavior Technician may be required to attend field trips and other class activities.

Requirements

  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or ability to complete district-paid RBT certification process within 90 days of employment including: 40 hours online RBT training, Passing an RBT competency assessment with district BCBA, Passing the RBT exam
  • Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Psychology or Behavioral Psychology is preferred
  • Preferred coursework in special education, ABA, or a related field
  • Minimum two years of experience working with students with special needs within a school setting. Working as an ABA paraprofessional/ tutor desired.

Responsibilities

  • Collect accurate, objective, and ongoing data on student behavior (observe, monitor, record, and graph behavior of students according to approved procedures).
  • Work through challenging behaviors such as aggression, tantrums and self-injurious behavior, through the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and consultation with District BCBA to support student progress towards IEP behavior goals.
  • Effectively implement skills identified on the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) task list, including conducting preference assessments, using contingencies of reinforcement, prompt and prompt fading procedures, developing hypotheses regarding the functions of behavior, implementing antecedent modification and extinction procedures, and effectively communicating with district BCBA.
  • Work with students with disabilities including autism, emotional disturbance, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavior challenges.
  • Facilitate play and social peer interactions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion pertaining to a school environment.
  • Attend team meetings as necessary during school hours. You may also be required to attend field trips and other class activities.
  • Participate in district and/or SELPA required trainings relevant to the position (e.g., CPI).
  • Assist with the regular and consistent physical and hygienic needs of students, including but not limited to toileting, toilet training, diapering, lifting, dressing, and feeding.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
